The Stand is like that. You either love it or hate it, but you can't ignore it. Stephen King's most popular book, according to polls of his fans, is an end-of-the-world scenario: a rapidly mutating flu virus is accidentally released from a U.S. military facility and wipes out 99 and 44/100 percent of the world's population, thus setting the stage for an apocalyptic confrontation between Good and Evil. "I love to burn things up," King says. "It's the werewolf in me, I guess.... The Stand was particularly fulfilling, because there I got a chance to scrub the whole human race, and man, it was fun! ... Much of the compulsive, driven feeling I had while I worked on The Stand came from the vicarious thrill of imagining an entire entrenched social order destroyed in one stroke." There is much to admire in The Stand: the vivid thumbnail sketches with which King populates a whole landscape with dozens of believable characters; the deep sense of nostalgia for things left behind; the way it subverts our sense of reality by showing us a world we find familiar, then flipping it over to reveal the darkness underneath. Anyone who wants to know, or claims to know, the heart of the American experience needs to read this book. --Fiona Webster Product Description: When a man crashes his car into a petrol station, he brings with him the foul corpses of his wife and daughter. He dies and it doesn't take long for the plague which killed him to spread across America and the world. This work comes from the author of "The Tommyknockers", "Misery" and "Pet Sematary". ![]() Evaluación: - Amazing BookThis is the best Post Apocalyptic book I have read yet. King delivers as he always does living up to his reputation of the best novelist in history, in my opinion. A must read for anyone who likes this genre and a challenge to see if it will break into your top 5 all time favorite novels Evaluación: - Chillin' with the CaptainThe Stand is one of the best books I have ever read in my life. I failed 9th grade mathematics because i decided to redad this the last month in all my classes instead of paying attnetion when this idea had just came out. And then the unabridged version came out. To say that the additions were beuatiulf is, to me, an understatement because there is so much hidden inside of those pages. you have characters breathing, plots brewing, the world dying, and "him" walking amongst the corn and calling all his children. Here is your greatest two forces collide book ever penned. Basically, you ahve a problem in a military facility and that leads to the release of a little thing called Captain Tripps. The good Captain then gets out as a guard does his best to escape and stay alive, and manages to hit a fuel pump as it goes. This leads you to your firs toutbreak AND your first imunity. Over time, many people find that they have weird dreams and that they have an immunity to the ... However, I do know that some people like to have something going on constantly rather than the slow pace the book presents. This book draws the readers into a world and follows the characters doing the mundane things. This to me brings the characters to a more realistic image in my imagination. So when calamity falls on the characters I did gasp and cringe in horror. I did whoop and cry in joy for the good parts. A masterful weave of a tale. I hope the department of Defense picks up Stephen King as a participant in a think tank for I bet he can bring things to a more realistic scenario in "end of the days" scenarios. I highly recommend this book. I know that from reading other reviews that this book is either one people love or hate , I only have this to say to the haters...You can buy this book for less than what a movie cost so if you hate it your not out of a lot of money. If you do ... Leer Más Evaluación: - Book never sent out per Amazon StatusIt appears the book was never sent out. Seller never even sent an e-mail of explanation--even after a month had passed.
