This is a beautiful book, lots of pop ups and intricate detail. however it is not for your little one to read alone, not unless you want your pop ups destroyed. Great visual aids for children if you are reading to them, pricey but a worthwhile investment. If you want a book for your child to read I suggest the board book version of this one.

Evaluación: - Board Book PERFECT Option for Babies
This is a perennial staple in the children's books collection I've amassed over the years.

When my son started showing interest in being read-to, I pulled out my trusty old, paperback version of this book.

BIG NO NO with a teething baby.

Our local children's librarian said that it's a great idea to allow babies to explore 'reading' with all senses, including mouth.

As my little guy liked the imagery enough to eat, I opted for the board version of this book and am VERY pleased with it...so is my baby's hungry little mouth :)

I ordered this book as a baby shower gift. I ordered it exactly 10 business days prior to the shower. My book came in 1.5 weeks later. I had to buy a different book at Borders for the shower. This book is great, however - just not getting it almost a month after it is ordered.

Evaluación: - Pop-up caution
I love this book. I remember it from my childhood and want it for my child. I ordered the pop-up edition and found the pop-up components were already damaged upon delivery. I think some of the pop-ups in this version would not last long with children handling it. I have returned the product and will look for the sturdy board book version with holes.

Evaluación: - Strange, but Captivating
I started collecting children's books long before my daughter was born, but I never bought this one. Every time I would read it in a bookstore, I couldn't figure out what all they hype was about. It's kind of weird: Why is the horse blue? ("Blue horse, blue horse, what do you see?") And why is the cat purple? All of the other animals are the correct colors. The words seemeded, at the time, repetitive and boring. And I thought it was odd that there was a teacher at the end. It seemed like this book belonged in a classroom rather than at home.

Fast forward to a few months ago, when my daughter, at the time 11 months old, went to a little baby-and-mommy enrichment class that I take her to. The teacher read this book, and my daughter was enthralled. She stared and stared, and she kept scooching up closer to the teacher for a better view. This immensely popular toddler book features a procession of animals, introduced by the same chant addressed to the preceding animal: "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, what do you see?" The animal answers, "I see a red bird looking at me." Then the page is turned to reveal a red bird, who is asked the same question, and answers that a yellow duck is looking at her. In this way a blue horse, green frog, purple cat, black sheep, and gold fish are introduced, who finally mention the teacher and children who are looking at them (presumably from outside the book, as well as being pictured in its pages.)

The predictable format, rhymic repetition, pleasing collage illustrations, and systematic introduction of colors with animal names have endeared this book to children and those who teach them since its publication 40 years ago. Evaluación: - Never Too Young to Learn to Read
Dr.Martin has demonstrated the beauty of repetition in developing vocabulary in young children. The colors will excite the toddler and instill a love of reading. His companion book, "Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?" follows the identical technique. However, as a childhood educator, Dr. Martin should know that snakes do not have ears and cannot hear. But Eric Carle's hissing boa makes up for misstep. These books will live forever.

Evaluación: - A Great Toddler Book
In this pleasant sequel to The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Eric Carle introduces a spider who, carried by the wind, lands on a fence post and begins to spin her web. In each two-page spread, a different animal approaches her, inviting her to participate in an activity familiar to them: the horse wants her to go for a ride, the cow invites her to eat some grass, the sheep invites her for a run in the meadow, and so on. The spider's response to each invitation is silence, because "She was very busy spinning her web." At the end of the story,, the purpose of the web is revealed when a pesty fly (which had buzzed around each animal in the preceding pages) meets its fitting end, and the spider settles down to sleep, satisfied after her busy day.

Evaluación: - Brilliant, big, bold and FUN
I am thrilled that this book is so big as it's great for small and large crowds of kids who can see the pictures well and can then really get involved. Repetition is the key and kids love the excitement of learning so fast and being able to shout out "I can do it". I collect TY Beanie Babies and have a huge collection of animals, many of which match those by Eric Carle. In this book, the parrot, camel, gorilla, seal, buffalo, giraffe and penguin are amongst his characters. I use his books to teach French and it's great to just write the translation on each page, in a different colour. The words are fairly simple and repetitious and so books like this one are brilliant for fast learning. Fantastique :o)

My daughter is 22 momths and she loved this book. She is able to flip the hadcover pages herself and imitates the gestures of the different animals. She is learning all her body parts as well as the names of different animals. It is very interactive...I highly recommend it!

This is a pleasant follow-up to Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?, What Do You See?, with the rhythmic refrain changed by one word. This volume focuses on animals found in the zoo and the sounds they make: Polar bear, lion, hippo, flamingo, zebra, boa constrictor, elephant, leopard, peacock, walrus, finishing with the zookeeper and children, who playfully imitate the animals. It's characterized by pleasant, predictable repetition and Eric Carle's wonderfully playful collage illustrations.

Like Brown Bear, this book is well suited to the preschool crowd and could make a confidence-building practice reader.

Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear? continues the joy that young children develop as they read Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? The relationship between the words and pictures with repetition increases the vocabulary so important in childhood development. Dr. Martin should have known that snakes have no ears and cannot hear but Eric Carle's beautiful boa does make up for the misstep. My daughter loves this book, the hard board edition is great but a bit on the small side, the mini pages (different times the lady bug goes to see other animals to fight) are kind of small as is the text, making it difficult to point to the words I am reading as she looks on. I like this book but it is slightly expensive. nonetheless its a good book to have!

A punch, a kick, a pull, a shove, a pinch.....oh yep, those things happen between kiddos at my school from time to time. There's lots of developmental (and environmental) reasons this goes down. I won't bore you with them. My job as the school counselor is to help kids with social growth and surprise surprise....they can get mad and angry during the school day! I've been reading this story for quite a few years. It's very loved among kids because of it's cool setup with varying page sizes and illustrations. But The Grouchy Ladybug has also been a powerful tool for teaching anger management to my K-2 students. Cuz just about every page she is trying to scrap with someone - "Hey you! Wanna fight!!?" Perfect for teaching replacement behaviors. I love hearing the students try and figure out what's under her anger. They try and relate to her! This story about a petulant ladybug who sets on a quest to find someone big enough to fight with was recommended to me by Barbara Haymann-Diaz, a long-time children's librarian who has now retired and volunteers weekly at the Adriance Memorial Library. Eric Carle is a powerhouse in the world of children's literature. Together with his wife, Bobbie Morrison, he founded The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art, a museum devoted to the art of children's books in Amherst located near Hampshire College (one of the places I want to visit really badly).

Before the story starts, Carle explains that aphids are pests which are eaten by ladybirds in order to help plants grow. When the eponymous ladybug meets a nice, friendly ladybug who offers to share aphids with him, it turns it down and asks for a fight. Evaluación: - Folks are missing the humor
Many of the reviewers have complained about the book/character being violent. On the contrary, the grouchy lady bug never actually fights anyone, and in fact always has an excuse as to why it can't fight at that moment. That's the joke. After a couple of confrontations, you realize the lady bug is going to back out everytime...and it's funny! Not to mention the oddity of a cute little lady bug being "grouchy" in the first place!

Lighten up folks. It's a story book. Not everything has to contain a "lesson". Some things can just be funny.

My 4 years old son was expecting have some funny experience with this book, but.. it was more of that... My son is really happy with this wonderfull book... The animation, of course, the best that I've even seen in my life. My children at the school /I'm a teacher in a preschool, were really quiet and surprised looking the pictures.. I have to confess I bought this book for my 4 yr. old daughter and ended up keeping it for myself! It's still in the family so I think it's okay--besides I think she's a bit young for it! I bought it because I thought it would be inspirational for my young daughter and as I started reading through it I found it inspiring myself. I love the way the artist's talk about their experiences with art.I also enjoyed looking at the art they created when they were young. Many of the artists also give bits of inspiring words for the young artists to think about. I think this book would be a wonderful gift for a young inspiring artist or anyone who enjoys art!

Sometimes a really creative artist has vision beyond himself and philantropic urges to propel him. "Artist to Artist: 23 Major Illustrators Talk to Children About Their Art" is just one product of the merger of these three qualities in Eric Carle, children's book writer and illustrator.

But wait, there's more. He and his wife developed and built a museum called the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Boston. Here the art of the picture book from around the world is celebrated. From the website comes this statement about fulfillment of the mission--"...by collecting, presenting and celebrating the art of the picture book from around the world and by providing interactive experiences and programs that are engaging and educational." One area Carle most values in the museum is the art studio where visitors (activity geared toward children) can actually create a "masterpiece." Evaluación: - Stunning Book - a must for lovers of Picutre Book Illustration!
This book is beautiful in every way. The selection of featured illustrators includes Mitsumisa Anno, Nancy Elkholm Burkert, Eric Carle, Tomie dePaola, Leo Lionni, Barry Moser, Jerry Pinkney, Alice Provensen, Maurice Senkak, Gennady Spirin, Chris Van Allsburg and many others. The text(written by the artists) is fascinating and easily readable for older children and adults. Foldout pages show examples of each artist's early work, their studios and materials, finished work and a self-portrait. The color quality of the reproductions is outstanding and Robert Sabuda's page features a real Pop-up! If you love book illustration I highly recommend this book. I found it to be illuminating and inspiring!

Evaluación: - Please make the chirp stop
This is a favorite of my family. It was a favorite of mine until the chirping would not turn off. The book was closed and the chirp was still chirping all night I was to tired to search for the book at first but after 10 mins I could take no more. It is a really cute story and we love the chirp but I had to take the batteries out. If my daughter wants to me to read this one to her I have to hold the batteries and put them in when she gets to the last page. Hope this helps someone else before buying the book we love Carle but I would pass on this one.

Evaluación: - DON'T BUY FROM AMAZON - BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE
So, this book is supposed to chirp when you get to the end, I am wrapping it up to give to my nephew on Christmas Eve and I turn to the back - no sound. I called Amazon and was slightly unhappy that they sent me a book that didn't chirp and so my nephew wouldn't have it to unwrap Christmas morning. So, I call and the customer service rep is pretty surly, but finally tells me that he will send me a working copy of the book by priority mail, but the soonest it will arrive is Monday after Christmas. Which, while not ideal, is ok because my nephew doesn't leave town to go home until Wednesday. So, I wait and wait all day Monday - the book does not come. I call Amazon first thing on Tuesday only to find out the guy LIED to me, and instead of sending the book as promised, he just refunds my money and sends me an email telling me I need to re-order the book. Evaluación: - Great when it works
Once again Eric Carle doesn't disappoint. It is a wonderful story that allows for discussions as the child grows. Illustrations can be used to learn colors, or let the child create their own version of the story. Chirping crickets at the end are delightful for both the listener and the story teller; however, some books are problematic with how well the sound works--be sure to check your purchase out! Simple text is great for emerging readers even though they probably will have the story memorized! The board book construction is great for little fingers not yet adept at turning pages.

I really like that it talks about the names of bugs and what the bugs do. It has the repetition (and choppiness) of a Carle book, which made it easy to let the kids chime in on "But nothing happened. Not a sound". The ending was dumb though, which is why I gave it 4-stars.

My three-year-old daughter loves this book. She has had a fascination with the moon since she was old enough to notice it. She likes unfolding the pages and reads it to her baby brother. It is a cute introduction to the phases of the moon. She likes especially to have her daddy read it to her.
