Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Every American should read this book!
I had heard about this book as well as a few others about Pakistani or other Middle Eastern cultures. I am ashamed to say I didn't think I would enjoy reading these, or that I would connect in any way with books about people so far away from me. Boy, was I wrong! Now, I'm a Greg Mortenson "convert" and I really believe every American should read Three Cups of Tea. We can learn so much from Greg, and especially in these times of increasing terrorism acts, we must look for other solutions besides war. Guess what--Greg has the solution! Read it and you'll be a believer, too!

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - A completely inspiring book that is also a very, very good read
One person can make a profound difference in the lives of other. Mortenson's nearest spiritual kin is Mother Theresa and all the unsung missionaries overseas who have improved countless lives through selfless action. Why Mortenson hasn't been awarded the Nobel Peace prize is beyond me. Not only is this a completely inspiring book, it is also a very good read.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - unexpectedly great, read it in three days
I expected to find the book to be heartwarming, inspiring and even interesting. What I didn't expect, was a story that was also entertaining to read. So many times I get stuck half way through a non fiction book because there's no plot to pull it along. This book held my attention and I read it over a 3 day weekend.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Required Reading
This book gives you understanding as to how politics and religion works in Afganistan and Packistan. It lets you know how the children are deprived of education and the escentials that we in this country take foregranted. It tells you about a person who is doing more for these people with very little in comparison to the Billions of dollars this country is wasting in that part of the world.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Must read for those who want to understand the local culture!
This is a great story about a man who's journey takes him to the doorstep of needy children. Greg truly finds his calling in life doing things that few of us could possibly have the resolve to do on a day to day basis. What an amazing man, and an even more amazing effort! If you truly want to understand what some of the people over in Afghanistan are like, read this book! It dispels some of the myths that have inundated our culture about Islam. Not all Muslims are bad. Just like with any group of people, you have those that ruin it for everyone else. Problem being that only the bad ones get attention from the media for their radical behavior. This book will give you insight into a man that has direct dealings with a culture that is much more basic and simplistic than what we are used to. It is required reading for the top brass in Afghanistan, and there is good reason for it! Do yourself a favor and get your hands on this book, even if it is just from the local library!

Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - Even better than 3 Cups of Tea
Easy to read and follow the story line. Inspiring. Teaches the valuable lesson of working together instead of bullying to reach a goal. Should be a must read in every school in the U.S.

Evaluación: 2 out of 5 stars - Disappointing
I did not read "Three Cups of Tea," and bought this for book club. While Mortenson has interesting insights about Afghan culture that he expresses well, in general I found the book disorganized and lacking a clear, compelling narrative.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - The way out of Afghanistan
August 18, 2010

Several days ago, eight foreign doctors and one Afghan were killed in Badakhshan, purportedly because their killers assumed that they had been proselytizing while providing services to persons in rural areas. Not only do those who leave the comforts of the Mac-and-PC nations to work in conflict or post-conflict zones encounter the dangers of nature; often they encounter the insecurity bred when education is coveted solely for the minds of the privileged, leaving illiteracy and ignorance as the society's canon.

Although bombs and bridges may appear helpful to those who have the possibility of one day returning to a Mac-and-PC nation, or to those who have never left the comfort of their Mac-and-PC nation, for those whose life conditions can change faster than the coolest app for the iPhone, structural integrity has the single greatest affect on their future. Mr. Mortenson and his dirty dozen aptly recognize this in their pursuit of equitable education ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - must read
This is a must read for everyone but especially for those who would equate Islam with terrorism. The people in Afghanistan and Pakistan who are the engine behind building schools for their children to become literate are truly incredible. Their drive, committment, selflessness, farsightedness and determination to having a better future for their country through education is astounding. It is their way of fighting extremism without bombs, weapons and bloodshed. We should all look to these brave people as examples of love and goodwill. I urge you to read this account of their fight to better themselves and then put away any notions you may have of thinking muslims are bad people.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Incredible personal account
Stones into Schools takes a leap forward from Three Cups of Tea in one significant way: Greg was willing to tell his story himself. It's incredible to read about his work in his own voice and you really get a sense of what it's been like for Greg to make such strides in these difficult countries as well as foster interest and investment back home on his book tours. He continues to make sacrifices every day for the betterment of the girls and boys and people of Afghanistan and Pakistan.

A good portion of the book tells the tales of his staff and this really took me into the heart of his efforts. I found the journeys of every person involved riveting and inspiring.

Once again, Greg's story of determination and perseverance is a true inspiration for all of us.

Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - Everybody should do something to change this world a little bit
I got this book because my friends recommended it to me. Actually, I got the teen version by mistake but it still tells the whole amazing story of a guy who wanted to make a difference. It is very inspiring and everybody should read it.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Three Cups of Tea for young readers is great
As always this story is motivating and inspiring. So glad its in version for kids.
Bought this for grandkids and for church library. Good Amazon service as always.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - One Person can make a difference
This is an excellent book. A lot of Americans beleive that we should not be at war in Pakistan and Afganistan. I agree that bombs are not the answer but as Greg Mortenson works so tirelessly to build schools and educate girls, he is making a huge difference in the war on terrorism. Mortenson knows that each person's actions are only a drop in the ocean, but as he says, "The ocean would be less without that drop." What a legacy Mortenson is leaving to the world.

Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - Three Cups of Tea
I thought Three Cups of Tea was a good read. It was informative about that it is actually like in Pakistan and Afghanistan. I like knowing that not every Afghan or Pakistani person we see is a terrorist. I mean, I didn't think that before, but this book just gave me a better insight on their lives and how hard it is for them to get through days at a time. I believe in Greg's cause as well. His will for helping these needy girls and their families make better lives for themselves is really a great thing to do. I don't think I know anyone today that would spend their time organizing and then following through with a promise as big as the one he made to the children of Korphe. He really changed their lives.
My favorite part of the book was when he and came back and followed up on his promise to the children of Korphe. I also liked how he didn't stop there. He realized the problem was all over Pakistan and wanted to help them too. He didn't have to but he knew it was a national problem. My ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - Chase Corbett Three Cups of Tea Review
The book Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson tells a story about a man with a dream but ends up on a different course. In the book, Greg hopes to honor his diseased sister by placing her necklace on the top of K2, the world's second tallest mountain. While Greg attempts to fulfill this task, he gets lost, becomes sick, and stumbles upon the village of Korphe. While in Korphe, the kind people there help Greg get back on his feet and nurse him back to health. While there, Greg notices the little boys and girls being taught their school lessons in the dirt with sticks. Before Greg leaves, he promises the village chief he will return one day and build a school in Korphe.
Greg keeps his promise and returns with enough money to build the school for Korphe. Although Greg had problems at first getting enough money to build a school, he did everything he could to get enough money. When Greg finally saw the completed school and how happy it made everyone in Korphe he discovered that he became very ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - another wonderful Greg Mortenson story..this one for kids
Outstanding version of Greg Mortensens inspiring story as told in Three cups of Tea..but for children. The illustrations are bright and creative.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent book
"Listen to the Wind" is a very creative small children's version of Greg Mortenson's wonderful book "Three Cups of Tea." The illustrations in "Listen to the Wind" are breathtaking. My 5 yr old granddaughter was in awe of children doing their lessons outside in a circle, scratching numbers in the dirt with sticks.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - A great book for kids on philanthropy and making a difference in the world
This book is wonderfully illustrated and well written. I had already read the adult version of Three Cups of Tea so I could have been biased by my strongly positive impression of the adult version. However, bias aside, this is really nicely illustrated. And the story, while not as entertaining as pure fiction, is quite compellingly told. I read it to my 7 year old, and am also purchasing it for all three of my kids' classrooms as the end of year gift this year. I strongly recommend this book to all who want to educate their children in ways to make a difference in this world.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Listen to the Wind
After reading Three Cups of Tea I bought a copy of Listen to the Wind for one of my grandchildren. The story and illustrations were beautiful and delightful. Thie story should motivate children to help others less fortunate by starting the project "Pennies for Peace." In addition, it helps them develop a global view. I bought three more copies for my other grandchildren. One daughter-in-law said she read it herself six times before she gave it to her son's teacher to read to the entire class. Great book! Buy it for some child you want to motivate.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Great book!
This book is beautifully illustrated and great for children. It does a wonderful job telling the story of Three Cups of Tea, Mortenson's original book, in a way children can understand.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Amazing story
Greg's story is truly amazing. I can't remember the last time I felt so inspired to get off my butt and do something after reading a book. If we all can't be more like Dr. Greg then we should at least be offering our pennies or prayers or anything we can to his cause. Education truly is the answer! I can not say enough good things about Greg Mortenson's story and the book "Three Cups of Tea."

Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - Cultural Intelligence Quotient
This was the third book I've read on the Middle East and the cultural implications are huge! Greg Mortenson had the heart and guts to LEARN the culture of the Middle East and so was able to move "mountains" in establishing those many schools. Typical Americans, and I would venture all peoples, have a difficulty with understanding cultural differences. This book made me so aware of our need to learn about various cultures and the inherent character of those cultures. This is reason enough to read this book! Learn about the culture of the Middle East!

On a separate note - there wasn't much room for the real devastation America experienced after Sept 11, 2001. Mortenson seemed to slough off the military response, rather than attempt to recognize the reaction of a country attacked by the terrorists who originated from this region of the world. That is why this book is so necessary - for both understanding of cultures and to guard against judging "reactive" nature of an attacked ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - 3 Cups of Tea...thoughtful and thought provoking
To read this book is important for those that seek a better understanding of the peoples and their beliefs that are in headlines of our daily news. The cities and countries...Afganistan, Kabul, Pakistan, Baltistan all names so foreign to us become real on the pages of this book. The dedication of one man to change the world by educating one child at a time one school at a time. Really a remarkable story. I volunteer my time to a non-profit after school program called HEART proyouth that shares the same ideals that Mr. Mortenson supports. Our children are in our communities in the Central Valley of California. Our mission is the same to bring change through education. Keep children out of "gangs". Teach then that they have choices. Our children whether here or across the water are all of our future.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Three Cups of Tea
A story of a most amazing young man who followed his passion for helping others and fighting terrorism. This book kept me spell bound from cover to cover. I learned so much from his experiences and hope that he is able to continue his incredible work.
If you are looking to learn about Pakistan, Afganistan, Taliban, the life of young women and how terrorism is fueled, read this book. It is filled with real people trying to live under the worst possible conditions. It is the story of how one individual can make a huge difference in the lives of many.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Review of Three Cups of Tea
One of the best books I have ever read. I have passed this book on to several other people and they have all enjoyed it as well. It is also a very important book in terms of our country's way of dealing with Pakistan and other middle east areas.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Maravilloso encuentro

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Three Cups of Tea
A fabulous story of how one man dedicated his life to making the lives of children better by providing them with schools. In one of the most remote parts of Pakistan this world class mountain climber decided to build a school for the children of the villagers who saved his life. (His only stipulation was that girls as well as boys be allowed to attend the school) This led to additional schools in both Pakistan and Afghanistan. He has made more of an impact on the lives of these children and their parents than any government within or without these countries. He has truly been a miracle worker.

Greg Mortenson is a very unusual man. But I truly believe that what he is doing will change the way we all think about educationing people. Not just the young but all people. This book is not about religion or converting People in Pakistan or Afghanistan.

Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - Amazing Work
Greg Mortenson is one of the least selfish humans I've ever heard of. It is amazing ot read the story of how he started the Central Asia Institute and the sacrifices he made to build these children schools. I felt that the book went on a little long, but it is definitely worth the read!
