Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Great first book
My almost 2 year old loves this book. Personally I really struggled with ever wanting to read this book since it seemed so boring, but its a great first book for the little ones. THey pick up on something different each time. This has been one of our night time favorites and I can see why people love it so much. It took till he was about 15 months before he liked this story, but it is perfect for a kid as early as a year.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Son LOVES this book
I know that this is a popular book, but I was not expecting my son to love it as much as he does. As soon as I incorporated this book into bedtime, all other books sit on the shelf. He usually has me read this story to him 3 or 4 times. And he is trying to say the words with me. Great book and it makes my almost 2 year old smile every time.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - From 1 star to 5 stars.
Upon receiving this book I initially wrote a bad review of it, as the illustrations have a lot to be desired, but after reading it to my son I think it's only fair that I change my feedback. My son just adores this book, and since this book is for him and not me I know he'd give it rave reviews.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - great book to share
I have purchased this book time and time again as a baby shower gift. It is a classic book that I love to share and give as a gift.

Evaluación: 1 out of 5 stars - Over-rated
I am soooo disappointed with this book. After reading all the glowing reviews, I expected more. The story is boring. It just points out various things in a room, then proceeds to say "good night" to all the objects in the room. The illustrations not impressive, and every 2 pages alternate between black/white and color. I've been reading this to my daughter since she was very young (now 14 months old), but she's never really been that interested in it.

Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - Oedipal Bunny?
The Runaway Bunny and its companions Goodnight Moon and My World are a work of genius incorporating Oedipal theory into what is often incorrectly seen as the simplest form of literature: a picture book. Parents should be aware of the hidden messages in these books. Read Have a Carrot: Oedipal Theory and Symbolism in Margaret Wise Brown's Bunny Trilogy.

Evaluación: 1 out of 5 stars - Terrible story
The book and pictures are fine, but the story is awful. The mother bunny is totally smothering - give the kid some space! Just because the little rabbit needs some space doesn't mean the love is not there. The only part I like is when the mother turns into a tree. At least the little rabbit can choose to fly back instead of being constantly hounded! I have to explain to my kids (2 and 3 years old) that it is okay for them to want to be alone sometimes whenever I read this book to them (which is not often).

Evaluación: 2 out of 5 stars - Not My Favorite Book
I bought this book for my 17 mo old b/c he is quite obsessed with Goodnight Moon and I like the black and white and color illustrations in both. I knew what The Runaway Bunny was about, but I don't feel that comfortable reading it to my child.

I understand that children need to feel secure in their world and know that their mothers are there for them. I understand that that is the book's message, I also feel like I am telling my child that I will thwart his attempts at independence.
I don't want him to think that is what mothers want for their children. I feel compelled to clarify this for him as I read it.

The illustrations are great though. A better book that deals with a child's autonomy is "I Love You Stinky Face".

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - one of my favorite bedtime stories!
The Runaway Bunny is one of my all-time favorite bedtime stories. I read it to my children for years. Whenever I am giving a baby shower gift, I always tuck this book in the gift along with my two other favorites - Goodnight Moon and Guess How Much I Love You. We had the regular-sized board book, but when I recently went to order it, Amazon was out-of-stock so I bought the lap edition instead. Wow! What a great book! The large size is awesome and I highly recommend it. It will make a keepsake for years to come.

Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - review by worldoflil.com
My girlfriend reads this to her daughter every night. Being a single mother, it definitely reinforces the love a mother has for a child - and lets the child know that wherever they go - the mother will follow. If you believe in instilling these values in your child at a young age then this is the book for you. It's also a cute tale.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Great Book
If you are an educator, this is a must have for your shelf. This book is a great starter for writing. I use it throughout the year to have students write the important things about themselves and during our space unit, students write about the important things about earth. The ideas are endless.

Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - Short and Unique
Margaret Wise Brown has some good books out there. My favorite is the Fur Family book, but this is also a good one. Her books are a bit random/different/steeped in a different style than most. The Important Book had some fun concepts (other reviewers have explained the pattern of the writing).

I found the ending a bit... trite (the important thing about you is that you are you), but I'm not a kid and I think children just enjoy it.

I also found the illustrations weren't what I was expecting - the full color cover left me thinking there would be all full color illustrations. About every other page spread is black and white. Sometimes it contributes to the book, sometimes it doesn't. It isn't bad, it just was not what I expected.

I sound critical - I don't mean to be. I give the book 4 stars because it is good. I just want to share some details that might be interesting.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - What a wonderful book!
I love this book. It is so simple, yet wonderfully descriptive. As a teacher, the writing prompts are endless for this one!

Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - The Important Book
This is a fabulous book that helps children learn to decipher the important things about myriad of objects. It can also be used by teachers as a terrific way to wrap up a days activities. (ie The important thing about a concentration camp is... then students write five or six things they learned during their study of WWII).

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - The Important Book
Its a classic and a great gift to give teens and adults as well as children.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - A classic
I have been reading this story to my son since he was born. Two years later, he still LOVES it! So much so, that we are on our second copy. What a sweet story about barnyard animals. It's a short tale that progresses from day to night with the farm animals. As an aside, another reviewer mentioned that a butterfly is on each page. I've had fun trying to find it. Great children's book!

Evaluación: 3 out of 5 stars - Beautiful but disappointingly unengaging
I bought this book before my daughter was born, because it was such a cute, classic book for children. It's been around for ages, gets wonderful reviews, is written by the extremely prolific children's author Margaret Wise Brown, and features a toddler favorite-- farm animals! I LOVED how the illustrations shows life at the farm progress from day to night through the lighting-- the sunset page and the night page are just lovely. And I loved that it is a goodnight book, with all the farm animals asleep in the barn by the end.

Now, for the real test: My daughter. At 14 months, has several farm themed board books and, I am sad to say, this one is not her favorite by a long shot. Every time I try to read it to her, she gets bored about three pages in, and this is NOT her reaction to all books. Having watched her reaction to this and other books, these are my conculsions about why this one is not as engaging: (a) The cadence is not that great for a M.W. Brown book. It ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 1 out of 5 stars - Board book is tiny
Charming picture book, lovely story, nice illustrations... but the board book version is TINY. I guess I should have read (and thought about) the dimensions of the book before I bought it! This is one of those picture books that you really need to be able to see the illustrations to really get 'into' the book, in my opinion. The board book version is too small to serve this purpose. Squinting at a tiny cow or horse doesn't really create the best read-aloud experience for me.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Get this book!
I'm a teacher and a parent of two toddlers. I have TWO copies of this book because they fight over it. I could go on and on about all the educational value there is to this book - but I'm sure someone else already has. Just trust me: this is the best book for babies and toddlers I've ever come across. I love it and best of all my kids love it.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent choice for Pre-Kindergarten classes
This book is wonderful. I taught a thematic unit on The Farm and used this as my Big Book for teaching reading stratigies and introducing my unit. The book starts out with an empty field and continues to add farm animals a few at a time into the farm yard. The attention to detail is great and give opportunity to predict and develop the child's attention to detail by including hints to small additions like baby field mice. It finishes with all the animals in the barn sleeping. The children can review the animals who are sleeping in the barn and you can teach other characteristics of the animals throughout the book. I highly recommend this book to anyone who teaches children, including parents because you are your child's first teacher.

Evaluación: 2 out of 5 stars - Awkward translation
It's nice that this book is available in Spanish; however, I find the choice of wording and the translation in Spanish rather awkward. I'd prefer a translation that used simpler wording and flowed more readily off the tongue. After all, this is a children's book.

Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - Nice book
I really like the book. I have the English version, which is a classic, so I bought the Spanish version which is acceptable.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Soothing bedtime story
As the little rabbit goes to sleep, he wishes a good night to everything he sees - from the mittens hanging out to dry to the playful cats, his comb and brush, and of course, the moon. The words have a soothing rhythm and the rabbit's room gets darker as one moves through the book. Nightime is falling and it's time for bed. Recommended for bedtime reading.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Very nice book
Great for learning spanish since my son knows the english version so well. It is identical but in spanish.

Evaluación: 2 out of 5 stars - No substitute for the original / no es buen sustituto por el original
Look, this book is a classic in its original English version; its rhymes are central to its greatness and are unequalled in translation. Though the Spanish version is not defective, it just does not have the same charm that the rhymes have in the original.

Get this book in English, and choose books translated into Spanish whose text are not central to their enjoyment (e.g., Buenas noches, Gorila), or choose books originally written by Spanish language authors.

Evaluación: 1 out of 5 stars - Emergent Readers
This is a delightful book for emergent readers. However, I do think the focus of the illustrations should have been more bug related. The bugs are so small and you have difficulty seeing their characteristics. The people illustrations are too oversized. The bug illustrations could also be a bit more prominent--size, color, features, etc. I do not recommend this series as high interest book for emergent readers. It lacks luster.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Early readers that are fun and beautifully illustrated
I purchased these books for my 5-year-old daughter who is beginning to read on her own and these Step Into Reading books are excellent as they have a high-interest factor that motivates her to read. The stories are also wonderfully illustrated in full color. The story here is by Margaret Wise Brown and is all about bugs - "Black bugs. Green bugs. Bad bugs. Mean bugs. Any kind of bug." It's a fun reading experience for young children, and my daughter loved the illustrations.

These Step 1 series are recommended for preschool-K - the stories are in large type and the vocabulary is easy. The stories are also in a rhyming format which makes them easy and fun to read. The full color pictures also provide contextual clues as to the word being used in the text. These early readers have raised my daughter's confidence level in reading, and she is doing so well that I'm purchasing the Step Two books (Preschool-Grade 1). I use these books in conjunction with sight words to reinforce her ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - cute book
I purchased this book for my son when he was 3 because he was very bug-phobic. I don't expect him to grow up to be an entomologist, but having him not run away when he sees an ant would be nice!

The book is geared for very young children. It shows kids with all sorts of bugs and the text tells how much "I like bugs" - of all kinds. This book did not cure my son of his phobia, but it was a good first step. It's also just fun to read and look at the pictures.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Great starter book kindergarten
This book is a great starter book for my kindergarten boy who is learning sight words. There are a lot of repeat words in this book, smaller words and a funny story to follow.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - I like bugs... not really it should be I love to read bugs!
My 6 year old is a beginning reader! He is so enjoying this book. He will read it and then read it again. It is a perfect read for him and his facination with bugs!

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Great for learning how to read
My 3 year old daughter loves this book. I think it makes her feel empowered by making it easy to read. It is so simple, yet it is so exciting to hear her actually say the words on the page herself. Great stuff!
I Like Bugs is another book she likes to read.

Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - Early readers that motivate children to read
I purchased these books for my 5-year-old daughter who is beginning to read on her own and these Step Into Reading books are excellent as they have a high-interest factor that motivates her to read. The stories are also wonderfully illustrated in full color. Here, the book is a simple and short reader on liking stars, "I like stars. Yellow stars. Green stars. Red stars. Blue stars." This is actually one of the more basic and simple readers in the Step 1 series. The others have more words in them and are a bit more challenging.

These Step 1 series are recommended for preschool-K - the stories are in large type and the vocabulary is easy. The stories are also in a rhyming format which makes them easy and fun to read. Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - such a cute book!
This is a great first book for babies! It is short with bright colored pictures which keeps my daughter interested all the way through the book. You can also start teaching colors with this book. It has cute animals all the way through the book that she loves also. I love this book and will read it to all my children!

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - marvelous
This is the second copy I have purchased for gifting. This is a great beginner book and one of my personal favorites.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Students' Favorite
My students in Japan, ages 1 and 2 years old, LOVE this book. I was really surprised. I thought the paper-cut-out artwork wouldn't grab them, but it did. The vocabulary was basic, but things they knew and could point to in the pictures. I turned this into a dialogue book because I found the sentences weren't enough. But even a month after we finished our work on this book, 2 of my students were still carying this in their book bags every day because they loved this book so much!

Evaluación: 1 out of 5 stars - Where oh Where is my LIttle Island??
Still have yet to receive this item, ordered a month ago! Hmmm, where could it be. I really would give it zero stars but I had to fill at least one in, since I never got the book....I say ZERO cuz I didn't get nada darn thing.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - A POST WAR CLASSIC THAT IS FORTUNATLY STILL WITH US
The Little Island by Golden MacDonald and illustrated by Leonard Weisgard has been around since at least 1946; had reprints in 1974 and any number of bootlegged, illegal copies made and sold throughout the years. There is a reason for this! This book is actually good! The story, more about that later, is beautifully done and the art work is different enough; quirky enough to appeal to children, and I might add open minded adults, down through the years.

The story is rather timeless and at first glance rather simple. We have a very small island inhabited by various creatures and plants and sea critters. The little island is subject to the changes in the seasons. This little island is actually a microcosm of our planted, and even the most thick witted can spot this fact after only a few pages. Kids, unlike some adults, are quite a bit brighter than we give them credit for; more open to the use of the possible and impossible, and pick up on this fact rather quickly. The author's ... Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Great reading for kids

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - "The Kitty Book"
My 23 month old son calls this the "The Kitty Book". He has loved this book for months. The illustrations are beautiful and the wording poetic, for the most part. The overuse of "and" is a fact in the book, I freely admit.

This book introduces a child to the seasons, to weather, to migratory movements of birds, lobsters, and seals (temporary residents to the island).

I think the most noteworthy thing this book brings to a child is the conversation between the kitten and island. On the surface it defines what an island is, saying plainly that although we can't see it, is connected to "all land". When the kitten says that he is connected to all land, but by jumping is a "fur island in the air" there are philosophical overtones, especially since the idea of faith is the next conversation that happens. I take away the idea, beautifully crafted, that everyone is connected to this world and to each other and that although we can't see it, we should have faith that it is ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - mediocre translation
The translation is literal - good for anglophone kids looking to learn a few nouns in French, but doesn't stand on its own as a kids' book for francophone kids. It doesn't have the rhythm of the English version and it doesn't rhyme.

Also, I disagree with their choice of "Bonsoir" instead of "Bonne Nuit." In my opinion "Good Night Moon" means good night more in the sense of "sleep well" (bonne nuit) than "good evening" (bonsoir).

Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - Nice way to introduce French
We purchased "Good Night, Moon" in both Spanish and French (as well as English) because our son loves the story o much and it seemed a good opportunity to expose him to other languages. As a non-native French speaker I find this book a bit harder to read that the Spanish version (seems an easier language to me), but we are still aving fun muddling through. My only complaint about this book is it's size - it's fairly small.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Bonsoir Lune
I was very happy with this purchase. Book in great condition. Any parent
wanting a child to start picking up a second language should definitely add this to their childs library. Also great for adults learning French.

Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - It's a classic - fun to have it in French
This is such an American classic - always fun to give the French version to my French friends having kids. And in my experience the book becomes a favorite of the French kids too. This version is paperback, and was smaller than I expected. That's fine though - I just appreciate having a place from which to order it.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Fun & easy reading
This story is a favorite of mine in english and, now that I'm teaching french to my children, it has become a favorite of theirs in french! It's easy reading and fun with great illustrations. I was extremely pleased that Amazon had Bonsoir Lune available and my children and I highly recommend it!

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Adore this book
Margaret Wise Brown had such a gift for language and this is one of my favorite books by her. The text is lyrical, almost sing-songy with all the repetitions, and I love reading it out loud. It is so simple and sweet. Both my kids have loved this book, and my younger one really enjoys the pictures and talking about what's in each picture, pointing out which things are Daddy's, which things are Mommy's, and which are baby bunny's. I actually enjoy the pictures too and seem always to find something new in them. The text is somewhat unconventional in its flow, though, so if you're looking for standard rhythm and rhyme, as well as a straightforward narrative, you might not enjoy it.

Evaluación: 1 out of 5 stars - Gentle and simple? Sure, but ....
Someone else described this anomalous work as "gentle and simple". I can't contest those adjectives, but truly this book makes no sense whatsoever. When my son brings it to me I try to figure out what the heck the authors were thinking, but time and again I draw a blank. The words seem like something Syd Barrett might have scribbled after his brain liquified. And what the heck is up with the last few drawings being like an inch square?

Evaluación: 1 out of 5 stars - I should have listened to all the bad reviews...
My 22 month old & 3 y/o are in LOVE with the Goodbye Moon book and I was so excited to see a companion book to it. I purchased this book for Christmas and regret doing so! The book does not transition smoothly, does not make sense, its awkward to read and most important the kids toss it to the side and will not stay captivated when I open it. It has gone into our pile of give-aways. Dont waste your $$$!!!! The Goodnight moon 123 counting book is a much better alternative!

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Really interesting story!
I was pleased with the pictures in the book. It arrived in new condition and looked very interesting for reading to my grandchildren. Since it is a Christmas gift, I have not actually read it. I'm just hoping they like it!!!

Evaluación: 3 out of 5 stars - My kids love it, although it's low on MY list...
Margaret Wise Brown must have known what types of illustrations and prose appeal to small children, because my kids love "My World". However, it is not one of MY favorites, especially compared to her other books. If I could divide up my ratings by audience, I'd says one star for adult readers, 4 stars for children.
