Stephen Covey is one of the most prominent self help gurus with international best selling books, seminars and training programs. I am a particular fan of Covey because his books are usually grounded in established principles of human behavior.

While this book is listed in category of self help and business, I would consider it as a welcome addition to the area of psychology and Positive Psychology in particular.

The 8th habit is an inspirational attempt to get everyone to connect with their inner voice. Voice for Covey is that special place that you are able to connect your mental, physical, social/emotional and spiritual talents. One clear advantage of reading a book such as this, so many years after publication, is that time has separated truth from theory. If I had read this thin volume ten years ago, I am sure I would have approached investing and the advice from the investment community with greater caution.

The similarities between the events described in this book and the recent crash is 2008 are astounding. I found myself rereading passages to check dates, names, and investment instruments. Some of the companies listed by Mr. Galbraith who were deeply involved in the most improper investment schemes of the twenties survived and evolved to perpetrate a new type of fraud on yet another generation.

Mr. Galbraith carefully lays out the building blocks that paved the way of financial destruction that exploded in 1929. A Classic! Gives the best explanation of the the causes of the Great Depression and so of the Crash of 2008. Bubbles and crashes have the same causes, only the names change not the fundamentals. Very interesting the role of Goldman Sachs in both cases

Evaluación: - This book should be required reading for all stock market investors
I read the 1999 version of this 1955 text and would recommend it to all readers with an interest in the Stock market. The writer jokes in his foreword about the sales spurt the book gets every few years as the same crises play out time and time again - the 1999 text predicts the tech bubble demise.

The book explores the follies of the roaring twenties stock market - and it will sound all too familiar to those familiar with the 2000 & 2008 market tops.

The book is a simple read - it is not overly technical, the writer has an easygoing style and the subject remains interesting throughout.

Evaluación: - Very current Marketing book, but....
I purchased this book for my Marketing & Healthcare class, only because it was required. The book has great examples of marketing concepts but does not get into detail of what each concept really means or can be implemented. There is also a website that corresponds with the textbook, but you cannot access the practice tests or basically anything for that matter. I would have preferred to have a different book that flowed better an wasn't trying so hard to be contemporary.

This is one of the worst examples of flagrant miss-use of scientific langugage. Only because I believed the scientific impression of the title did I buy the book in Spanish and English in order to be a tool for improving my spanish. Even if that is about $50 wasted, I WILL NOT waste any time on ANY of it. I want to enjoy the information that I read when I improve my spanish, not read nonsense and prattle. I will improve my spanish by HONEST and interesting books. They say that religious people in general can be trusted more than non religious people. Well that is absolutely NOT the case. Here is a case of religious people TRYING EVERYTHING to take you in, and they have NO IDEA that their dishonesty is as clear as the sun on a clear day. Dishonesty is LYING and the xth commandment is supposed to tell them "thou shalt not lie"; "thou shalt not bear false witness". Pretending Science while sprouting Religion is lying, is dishonesty, is bearing false witness.

I have gotten a lot of good information from this book in building my consulting business. The author discusses his own experiences on building a business and how things might not go exactly the way we want them to if they do at all. In the world of business, nothing is a guarantee but what can be a guarantee is to wake up in the morning and tell yourself, "I can do what it takes to make it happen!" Just saying that will get you through the day because you are not opening yourself to high expectations. It is important to remember, when having high expectations they may not always be there and that will cause a downward spiral that just damages everything you have worked so hard to build. This book is what you need to get you through the day of building your business one step at a time.

A masterpiece. We use this book in our consulting practice as a textbook of sorts - as an illustration of why and how to develop a cohesive management team and then manage "by the numbers". Stack had to learn the lesson the hard way when his company underwent an employee buy-out. Long-story-short, he figured out how to bring the management team (and the rest of the employees) into the critical reporting metrics by turning it into a "game" similar to a sporting event everyone could follow.. thus the title. It's all about "organizational readiness" and moving your team down the field together. It's also a quick read - good because you can put the ideas to work right away.

Los pretendidos criminales que presenta este libro son los propios antepasados de las pasadas y actuales clases dirigentes criollas. La independencia de los países latinoamericanos no fue mas que una insurrección fiscal, la oligarquía dirigente siguen siendo los mismos, las mismas familias. La corrupción rampante no es culpa de España sino de los propios gobiernos. Podemos compensar la falta de identidad nacional envolviéndonos en banderas y creando leyendas falsas sobre personajes históricos (saludos Mr. Chaves), pero la realidad es tozuda y no se cambia repitiendo ad infinitum la misma mentira. Este libro es dogmático y carente de base.

Along with Ken Blanchard, Spencer Johnson is the king of the quick powerful books on management and leadership, Peaks and Valleys is no exception. Told through the eyes of a young man who resides in a valley, we follow his journey as he learns practical tools from the most "peaceful man on earth." This man helps him learn to navigate through both the good and bad times - otherwise known as peaks and valleys.

One of my favorite quotes in the book reads, "You change your valley into a peak when you find and use the good that is hidden in the bad time." There are many such inspirational quotes packed into the book's 101 pages. Another example of an excellent tip, is to make reality your friend. This suggests that you constantly ask yourself the truth of any situation whether it's good or bad times.

Those familiar with Spencer Johnson's work will find little new in this slender volume. The wisdom of learning to adapt, persevere and adjust one's attitude is told in a generic Fairy Tale format with non-identified characters ("the old man" and "the young man"). Before too long the young man at his "peak" becomes and old man sought out for his wisdom by a new young 'un. Along the way we learn that, to be successful, we need to enjoy the journal, treasure peaks while they last and know that valleys don't endure forever. Simple stuff in a simple format and absolutely nothing that we don't already know.

This is an easy book to read. This is a simple story illustrating an important and yet simple concept. The main theme of this book is about how we manage our peaks (good times) and valleys (bad times) throughout our lifetime.

First we must accept the fact that good times and bad times happens. Second, as good and bad times come and go; we must accept that fact that good times ends and so does bad times. What matters to us is how we respond to the times and manage it such that we stay at the peak longer and we stay at the bottom shorter.

Conexiones 3rd Edition teaches us modern Spanish commonly used in Spain & Latin America. Definitely, the material is different than what we are use to if you are a native-Spanish speaker born in the United States. This Fall '09 Semester at Santa Monica College, CA will be the final semester in which the 3rd Edition will be used; the 4th Edition is now being used.

This is an excellent book for intermediate Spanish students. It teaches all Spanish grammar beginning with the most simple and includes the most difficult/advanced topics (subjunctive, etc.). It's written for an intermediate level student with a basic understanding of Spanish who wants to understand it on a deeper level. I highly recommend it!

I purchased this textbook 2 years ago because it looked interesting and informative and as Spanish language educator, I believe it is important to keep abreast of the lastest educative material on the market. Not only was I pleased with the content and the grammar topics covered in the book but I was particularly impressed with the cultural awareness themes in every chapter, the thorough explanation of the grammar concepts and the opportunity to prepare and discuss controversial themes in Spanish thus allowing to student to develop his/her vocabulary and speaking skills. This edition of Conexiones is a complete course for intermediate to advanced Spanish students and if studied thoroughly, to completion with a competent instructor, the student will have and above average foundation in Spanish which would be beneficial to his/her future studies in the Spanish language.
