Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Probably the Best in the series!
I think this is my favorite book of the series! This is the book where all the stories of the characters really start to come out and the action starts. I really enjoyed getting the back stories of more of the characters. This I think is one of the most entertaining of them all and I would totally recommend it.

Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - Loves Triangle
I enjoyed "Eclipse" the best out of the saga. Bella finally comes clean about her feelings for Jacob. Edward & Jacob work together to save Bella.
The danger that comes to Forks & wanting to see who "Bella"chooses makes this a page turner.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Eclipse (3d in the Twilight Series)
I was not certain that Ms. Meyers could continue this story as well she has. While this is the weakest of the books (my opinion), it is still very, very good. Like the other two books, this book is written well and easy to read. It seems to be a trend for me, but I read this book in one day and then read it again the next week, just like the other two. All three are as good the second time around as they are the first. i am highly impressed with Ms. Meyer's ability to continue the story line, answer questions from the previous books and keep you wanting more and more. Very addicting for one who likes to read high quality fiction. Once again, I highly recommend reading this series.

Evaluación: 3 out of 5 stars - Kept waiting for Victoria to hurry up and kill Bella
Cons: Sometimes you have to read a book for what it is and stop trying to say what you'd do in that situation. But other times it's very difficult to decipher between the two, and this book was one of those times. I honestly just wanted somebody to kill Bella so she'd stop whining. I don't remember her being this pitiful in the movie, but she was pathetic in the book. She was so glued to Edward's side that I wondered why she didn't ask him to wipe her after she used the bathroom, too. I can't tolerate weak female characters, which is probably why I love Alice, Victoria and Jane so much. They're strong characters who don't take any B.S. from anybody and know how to control themselves. Bella spent 75 percent of the book crying, screaming for Edward, begging for him to be wherever she was, running to hug him, trying to bribe him into having sex with her and manipulating Jacob. She had no outside interests and seemed to live suffocatingly on Earth just to be with Edward...and Jacob. I wanted ... Leer Más

Spoilers and a load of Twilight bashing is ahead

I've hated Twilight forever now. The books are boring and plotless, with no conflicts or no meaning to it. Bella is selfish, whiny, dull, backstabbing, heartless, and as boring as the books are. Edward is a stalker and an obsessive boyfriend. Jacob is love-sick puppy dog with nothing better to do but whine about his non-connection with Bella. Charlie is as dead as the fish he brings home from his endless fishing trips. Renee is airheaded. Every character`has a large amount of flaws to make Bella seemingly perfect despite her rediculous clumsiness.

Eclipse plot- If there even IS a plot here. Bella is supposadly in love with Edward and Jacob. But it is so obvious who she is going to pick this book isnt even needed. Meanwhile, Victoria is putting together a newborn vampire army in order to kill Bella, to get back at Edward for killing James. That of course means every vampire and werewolf in Forks has to protect ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 3 out of 5 stars - Frankenstein Opinion
My daughter had to read this book over the summer for a grade in her Honors English class. I liked the fact that it was cheap, but on the other hand, what I paid for shipping I could have went ahead and purchased it out of the store. I wasn't to thrilled about that!

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Mistake below -- This is the BEST edition
There are a gazillion ebook editions of Frankenstein out there. Frankenstein This Penguin Classics version is a fantastic ebook -- not just of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, but I mean the ebook formatting.

First, this is a scholarly edition. It contains so much reference information, it's a history lesson in itself.

It's loaded with linked footnotes that toggle -- click to read the footnote, then click again to be immediately back at your place in the book. Fantastic.

A cheap edition of this book is a waste of your time - plus you would be robbing yourself of the very best an ebook can offer.

I don't know who formatted this edition of Frankenstein -- and just to be sure, it's ASIN: B000OIZT9A -- but they deserve an award.

Evaluación: 2 out of 5 stars - Not brand new, when they said it was new.
The book (that was purchased) wasn't in the condition stated by the seller. I could have bought a better book with the price I paid for this book.

Evaluación: 3 out of 5 stars - Sad Story Indeed
The language can be hard to comprehend at times, sometimes because it is truly incoherent or stilted. Even so, there are far more passages that read so well it is like smelling a fragrant flower, the descriptions so clear and detailed yet eloquently stated. However, it's hard to rate this book above three stars because near the end I really had a hard time following it. It seemed the monster had died. Frankenstein came upon a sledge and his nemesis was dead, or so it said. Following that, the plot became nebulous and the passages were so exasperating I skipped many paragraphs until the point where Dr. Frankenstein had died, not the monster. Then I had...the rest of the story. But on the plus side, the plot was not predictable. With so many pluses, and so many minuses, I rate this story three stars.

Perhaps one day we will be able to use DNA material to recreate a Neanderthal, creating a true to life Frankenstenian monster.

My edition was close to the original, ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - A Gothic Masterpiece.
This haunting masterpiece still reaches new readers every day. I won't go into the details of Shelly's masterpiece in this review, but deal in what I think makes this a timeless classic that hangs on to readers today.

The character of Victor Frankenstein, a man obsessed with making a difference in the studies of life and death. It is his blind devotion to his studies over life and death, that leads to tragedy for his family and friends later in the story. Shelly takes us on a journey that shows us the frailty of our lives and the motives that drive us to achieve no matter the cost. Victor, even though he is a character, is within everyone. He is the blind ambition that throws away love for the sake of fame and immortality, and the utter lack of responsibility for his actions once the deed is done. This character is versatile, because it lingers in people, perhaps even someone you know.

Just as haunting is Victor's creation, the Monster. Racked with questions about his identity ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - There must be something in books
Books are dangerous. They're full of ideas that make people think about the world, feel passion, and perhaps act out. That's not good for society; it causes conflict, uprising, and interference with the status quo. People who read and think scare people who don't, so most citizens have happily given up the right to decide what to think about and now let the government fill their brains with constant loud mindless entertainment. This managed input has equalized society; nobody feels inferior to anyone else and there's no conflict anymore. Dull minds, constant entertainment, and conformity make society run smoothly.

Guy Montag works as a fireman. He burns books at night while his wife sits in her parlor and listens to inane media shows at high volume. But Clarice, the teenager next door, is different. Her family sits around and talks. They discuss things and they laugh with each other. Guy wonders what they talk about as he watches his wife talk to the strangers on TV and pop sleeping pills... ... Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Brilliant, depressing, electrifying, profound!!
Ray Bradbury's books make for immediate, mesmerizing, entirely compulsive reading. His prose is electrifying in its use of poetic metaphor and dramatic syntax. The reader is instantly plunged into an alien culture, or a terrifying future, and is not really released even after the last page is turned.

I had been postponing reading this novel for years. I am, after all, a confirmed bibliophile. Reading a novel with a plot involving the burning of books would, I kept telling myself, be too traumatic for me.

I finally decided to wade in.

Need I say that I only put the book down when I absolutely had to, when reality intruded? The novel carried me along on its relentless wave of narrative. Of course, I tried not to picture the books burning as I read, but Bradbury wouldn't let me. Not when he was describing them as living creatures, dying, their pigeon wings flapping.... The fact that I managed to endure this at all is a real tribute to the greatness of his writing. ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - "I hate a Roman named Status Quo!"
This book is all about one man's struggle against the status quo- even more frightening for him because he lives in a world where firemen are not the rescuers but the fire starters. They rush to houses not to put out fires but to burn them, and only those that hold the most heinous crimes against the state- books.

Guy Montag did his duty as a fireman till one day a girl- a free thinker- held a dandelion under his chin and woke him up.

His world turned upside down he made a stand and then had to run for his life- watched all the while by inhabitants of the city glued to their wall tv sets, numbed and dumbed down by the very thing that holds them enthralled.

Yet, Montag makes his escape, becoming more important than he ever could have realized while his world disintegrates around him- literally.

I read Fahrenheit 451 ages ago and it was fun to revisit it with older eyes. I thought I remembered this as a dystopian rant against state run government- perhaps ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Quick shipping - great condition
The book arrived very quickly and was in great condition. Not a whole lot to say about a book but happy with everything!

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Timeless
I just finished reading this book for the third time and it simply gets better with age, like a vintage wine. How can we picture a world where there are no books, particularly novels?

Like most of us on Amazon, I'm a voracious reader and have been since I was in elementary school. Books transport us to another world and allow us to have insight into lives, situations other countries that we may never otherwise experience. Good books pose tough questions about ethics, coping with adversity, and dealing with loss, sorrow or facing hard choices -- for example, Sophie's Choice, when she had to choose between which one of her children she would save from the Nazis.

When I was 19 and I first read this book, I thought it was just about banning books. I didn't fully comprehend the depth of mind control that would be involved in restricting information, and consequently creating a reality that is so sanitized that it bears no resemblance to real life. No wonder people were glued to the flatscreen ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Great first book
My almost 2 year old loves this book. Personally I really struggled with ever wanting to read this book since it seemed so boring, but its a great first book for the little ones. THey pick up on something different each time. This has been one of our night time favorites and I can see why people love it so much. It took till he was about 15 months before he liked this story, but it is perfect for a kid as early as a year.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Son LOVES this book
I know that this is a popular book, but I was not expecting my son to love it as much as he does. As soon as I incorporated this book into bedtime, all other books sit on the shelf. He usually has me read this story to him 3 or 4 times. And he is trying to say the words with me. Great book and it makes my almost 2 year old smile every time.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - From 1 star to 5 stars.
Upon receiving this book I initially wrote a bad review of it, as the illustrations have a lot to be desired, but after reading it to my son I think it's only fair that I change my feedback. My son just adores this book, and since this book is for him and not me I know he'd give it rave reviews.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - great book to share
I have purchased this book time and time again as a baby shower gift. It is a classic book that I love to share and give as a gift.

Evaluación: 1 out of 5 stars - Over-rated
I am soooo disappointed with this book. After reading all the glowing reviews, I expected more. The story is boring. It just points out various things in a room, then proceeds to say "good night" to all the objects in the room. The illustrations not impressive, and every 2 pages alternate between black/white and color. I've been reading this to my daughter since she was very young (now 14 months old), but she's never really been that interested in it.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Large Book requires adult supervision!
This is a beautiful book, lots of pop ups and intricate detail. however it is not for your little one to read alone, not unless you want your pop ups destroyed. Great visual aids for children if you are reading to them, pricey but a worthwhile investment. If you want a book for your child to read I suggest the board book version of this one.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - good book and service
The little boy who received this book loved it so much. It took a couple of weeks for it to arrive from the time I ordered it, but the child didn't know any better. he was happy. I am too. The seller was gracious-bookseller72135-and e-mailed me about the shipping time right after I ordered. All in all happy people every where.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Board Book PERFECT Option for Babies
This is a perennial staple in the children's books collection I've amassed over the years.

When my son started showing interest in being read-to, I pulled out my trusty old, paperback version of this book.

BIG NO NO with a teething baby.

Our local children's librarian said that it's a great idea to allow babies to explore 'reading' with all senses, including mouth.

As my little guy liked the imagery enough to eat, I opted for the board version of this book and am VERY pleased with it...so is my baby's hungry little mouth :)

Evaluación: 2 out of 5 stars - Great Book - long wait
I ordered this book as a baby shower gift. I ordered it exactly 10 business days prior to the shower. My book came in 1.5 weeks later. I had to buy a different book at Borders for the shower. This book is great, however - just not getting it almost a month after it is ordered.

Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - Pop-up caution
I love this book. I remember it from my childhood and want it for my child. I ordered the pop-up edition and found the pop-up components were already damaged upon delivery. I think some of the pop-ups in this version would not last long with children handling it. I have returned the product and will look for the sturdy board book version with holes.

Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - Very Sweet Book!
I purchased this book for my three-year-old daughter who loves animals and books. I received it within a few days of ordering it, and the book itself is of nice quality and should withstand the test of time! My daughter loves the book, and it does create a very definite sense of happiness and teaches a good lesson. It's about a bull named Ferdinand living in Spain who doesn't want to act like the other bulls by running around and butting heads. Ferdinand likes to sit under a cork tree and smell the flowers. By a funny accident, he is chosen to be a bull featured at the bull fights in Madrid, but he doesn't act the way they expect him to, and there is a nice ending. My only complaint (and the only reason I didn't give it five stars) are because of several lines in the book talking about sticking the bull with sharp objects to make him mad ("Picadores carrying long spikes to stick in the bull and make him madder"), and another line talking about how the Matador carries a sword to stick the bull last of all. Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - My favourite children's classic
This was and still is my favourite children's book. I have read it to my children and have just ordered some new copies in preparation for my grandchildren as my old copy is looking very tattered by now. It is a heartwarming and inspiring story of the gentle little bull Ferdinand who loved to sit under the cork tree and smell the flowers more than anything else. The bull fight scenes are sensitively handled but if you are terribly politically correct it may be worth reading the book first before reading it to your children.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - An Ageless Tale

This is a story that was new when Grandma and Grandpa were tykes. It is best read aloud with all of the fun that enunciation can bring to a story. I can still remember my mother reading it to me as a child. Now I can make the story live when I read it to my grandchildren. It is a joy to see the expressions on their faces as the bull wins their hearts. The story has not been altered in the decades since its inception. The definition of a classic is The Story of Ferdinand

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - A taut survival tale!
Review # 1239 with 1238 posted 15 days ago about "Hatchet," a book written 20 years ago by Gary Paulsen--

The point is: What new thing can I say about such a book? The answer is probably nothing with the point being that Amazon allows each of its customers an individual voice, despite how many there might be.

As a children's librarian (including those middle school children), I know that "Hatchet" is a great recommended read for reluctant readers for whatever reasons. Why haven't I read this book, I continued to ask myself. So--this summer I asked my great-niece and -nephew, 12 and 10, if we could all read and discuss this book? All agreed, no one finished. Here's how the first couple of chapters go: Brian, aged 13, is flying to a remote area in Northern Canada to stay with his dad. Because the area is so remote, a private plane must be hired. That means one pilot, one passenger in a tiny two-seater. Then, as it so happens from time to time in the real world--out of nowhere, the pilot has a ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - A Wonderful Adventure For Boys
Does your pre-or early-teen son hate reading? Mine does. I remember not being that thrilled about reading, especially for recreation, myself until I found the book that caught my attention and swept me into a different world. My son had read this book in school for a report and wanted to have it at home and that told me something. Maybe he had found the book. I got this 20th Anniversary Edition and he plowed right through it again, happily reviewing the events of each chapter with me. As he had shown so much interest in this book, I even ordered the next two in the series to see if we could keep the momentum going and so I can report to you that he is just as interested in what happens to Brian in The River and Brian's Winter.

Again, it has been difficult for us to find THE story that would catch his eye, that would garner enough of his attention to show him that reading is not only an assignment at school but entertainment that stimulates the imagination while giving the reader characters to care about and ... Evaluación: 3 out of 5 stars - Greatest book I ever read, until I got older.
I read this book when I was in high school and loved it. I couldn't put it down. It was by far the greatest book I ever read. Back then I didn't read so much.
I recently reread this book. It's definitely not as good as I remember. First of all, Gary Paulsen's writing style now drives me crazy. In my English classes through high school and college, I'd get marked down for repeating myself. Gary Paulsen makes an art out of repetition.
"He was alone. In the roaring plane with no pilot he was alone. Alone." Ok I get it, he's alone.
"And then he knew. Brian Knew... Brian knew now." Great, I know, you know, we all know that Brian now knows. It's almost as if Gary Paulsen wanted a bit of poetic flow in the story, but it came out as repetitious phlegm which nearly choked the storyline. At least for me.
Other than that, the book is fairly realistic. Perhaps with age I've become more skeptical. I don't understand why Brian can't make contact with anyone via the radio. And why no one could locate Brian in ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - A gripping survival tale
Why did I never read this when I was younger?? I vaguely recall it being a popular book during my middle school years, especially with the boys, so maybe I somehow got the idea that it was a 'boy book.' I'm so glad I decided to finally read it. It was a quick read, and I was absolutely gripped by Paulsen's survival tale right from the very beginning pages. The author so expertly uses Brian's inner monologues as a writing technique, that I nearly didn't realize that the book has no dialogue to speak of. The writing and the story are just so good--definitely an 'unputdownable' book. Without being overly wordy, Paulsen paints a clear picture of 13-year-old Brian's weeks alone in the woods. I loved Brian; he was such a likeable and real character. My one criticism of the book is that the 'Epilogue' didn't seem to 'jibe' with the rest of the book. It was almost as if it had a different voice or style or something. But as a whole, I was hooked by this story. If you're looking for an enthralling survival story, I highly recommend ... Leer Más

When I saw on www.amazon.com that this book was back in print, I couldn't resist! I have to admit, even now at my age, the book is excellent, a classic. And I was "glad" to see that I had owned a complete, unabridged version of the book when I was small. The School Library Journal lists it as being for Grade 7 and up; the Booklist says grades 3 - 6; I first read the unabridged version when I was 4 years old - and read it over and over until I was in seventh grade! I must confess as I re-read the book, that I was picturing the drawings that were in the book I used to own. Two drawings in particular stay in my mind - the one of Pollyanna being hit by the car and the one of the cat opening her bedroom door as her Aunt Polly cries out, "the child - will never walk again!" This book, while it had illustrations, did not have any "graphic" illustrations. What a shame. The one thing I did not remember from the version I had as a child was Jimmy Bean's statement about halfway through the book: "I ain't no beggar, an' biz'ness ... Leer Más

Newly-orphaned ten-year-old Pollyanna is sent to live with a stern aunt in a distant town. At least Nancy, the kindly housekeeper, treats the lonely child with compassion. But Pollyanna has learned from her father to make lemonade out of life's lemons; she tries to be cheerful despite drawbacks and dealings with mean or sour adults. Without realizing it the little girl offers hope and cheer to others in town--in her charming, unsophisticated manner. Soon
the Glad Game is being played by her neighbors--adults as well as children--for light and joy bubble forth from her.

Tragedy strikes when Pollyanna is struck by an automobile and becomes crippled. The town rallies to her support and even stern Aunt Polly--harboring some secret grudge from the past--unbends to prove more human than previously demonstrated. Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Worth reading!
Call me an overly-sensitive sap, but I think Pollyanna is a wonderful story. While it may not be "great literature," its optimistic, silver-lining-on-every-cloud message is inspiring, valuable, and timeless. Pollyanna demonstrates the "proactivity" described in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: namely that you have the power and the freedom to choose your response in any given situation. As human beings, we have the ability to choose to not be controlled by our circumstances; happiness is a choice. Granted, constant happiness is not realistic, and Pollyanna experiences challenges that would bring anyone down, and we see her humanity when she loses her ability to see the silver lining. I can see how cynical people would complain about how unrealistic the book is, but it is obviously about an EXCEPTIONAL person, someone we should all strive to emulate; and these exceptional people who can choose, maybe not happiness in every circumstance, but at least to find meaning and a reason and drive to keep living DO EXIST (see ... Although I appreciate those inspiring folks who believe that the glass is half full, choose to look on the bright side, and see a silver lining in every dark cloud, eleven-year-old Pollyanna takes the concept to an irritatingly higher level. Her businesslike forty-year-old half-namesake aunt Polly who resides in Beldingsville, Vermont, agrees to take on guardianship of the orphaned girl, not out of love but of duty, and relegates her to an uncomfortable, unadorned room. The girl welcomes flies, greets (and eventually befriends) standoffish townspersons, and can think of something good in even the worst situation as a direct result of her adherence to the rules of the "just being glad," game that she learned from her father (p 38) "the game was just to find something about everything to be glad about-no matter what `twas." Those she befriends quickly jump on the pro-Pollyanna bandwagon. She is slow, however, in transforming her aunt (who forbids her to talk of her father thus learns late of the game) from cool to convert. Pollyanna ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - Funny and enjoyable
Mark Twain sure knows how to write funny stories - and "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" is filled with them. My main criticism with the book is that there is no cohesive story. Instead there are several stories that are not connected to each other at all. The non-connected stories are funny, but there is no relation between them. It isn't until the book reaches the end where Twain begins to craft a cohesive storyline. It's definitely filled with some hilarious moments and great characters (Tom, Aunt Polly, and Huck), but as a whole I wouldn't classify this as a classic work of literature. For that you would have to read Twain's masterpiece "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn."

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Truly Great; can be enjoyed on Several Levels
Sure, this is a story about a boy. It is also a sharp delineation of the American character, a myth that includes episodes that harken back to Plato, Homer, the Old and New Testament, among other influences. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer presents a new kind of hero, a distinctly American hero, to world literature. From his low estate, due to his poverty, youth and incivility, Tom Sawyer surveys the grand vista of small town American life - and, by extension - America, and by his innocence and natural kindheartedness, redeems it from bigotry, intolerance, hypocrisy and all the ills that attend it. It is through Tom Sawyer's eyes that America is revealed as fresh and vital, even though in the novel he has no standing or prestige in the society. He eventually earns his prestige by a series of adventures that draws the town together and elicits it's highest potentialities. Tom Sawyer is the catalyst and the figure around which the Town realizes it's own highest ideals.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Fast and great condition
The book arrived very quickly and even though listed as "good" quality the book was immaculate. It looked brand new.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Stunning artwork by Camille Rose Garcia
I can't lie... I'm an Alice junkie. I've been a fan of this story for 25+ years and have at least 15 different copies of this book. We all know the story and there's nothing new as far as that goes. What's so new and updated and original in this book are the illustrations! The pictures are so vibrant and beautiful. I don't recommend this copy for first time readers because the pictures are very loud and could be distracting from the story. But for anyone who loves this story, this book is a collector's item for sure!

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Very briiliant book!!!

This is a very unique classic! This is a must read book for teenagers and adults expecialy, maybe a little difficult for children. It allows your mind to go on an adventure. I truely admire Lewis Carroll as he points out all the characters leaving the mind full of imagination. The peculiar white rabbit Alice follows in the tunnel leads her to meet all kinds of different characters.

Alice gets bigger and smaller through out the whole book as she drinks and eats all kinds of things. The characters make you smile such as the Duchess, Caterpilar who smokes but is wise, Chesire the Cat , lobsters who love to dance, the Mad Hatter, The King and the Queen of Hearts. The end of the story just made me want to read it over again. Let your imagination go a little wild as you read this amazing, brilliant book.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - The Artwork Really Brings This Classic to Life!
Almost everyone knows the classic tale of Alice in Wonderland. They've either read the book or seen the movies but none of the former publications quite bring Lewis Carroll's story to life like Camille Rose Garcia. The artwork in this story is fantastic! Every page pops and pertains to the scene being described in a nearly perfect fashion. After finishing this version I could not help wondering if I hadn't drifted off and visited wonderland myself.

Now, obviously the art is one reason to purchase this book but let's not forget the story itself. Carroll pushes the boundaries of reality, leaving the reader as well as the characters themselves to wonder if what they have experienced is real.

This is not your classic fairytale. There is a damsel in distress but she has to save herself. There are kings and queens but no princes to save the day. There is magic without spells and witches. There is life in everything from the animals to cards. There is chaos with a certain amount of order and a dose of fear.

Evaluación: 1 out of 5 stars - The book pictured is not the book you will receive
The book received only included "Alice in Wonderland". "Through the Looking Glass" is not included in the book, even though the picture depicts that both are included. I found the book that included both stories elsewhere and purchased it. I donated the book I received from Amazon to my daughter's school library instead of dealing with the hassle of returning it.
