I've read only a few of the Alex Cross novels, in no particular order, and while "Mary, Mary" contains an intriguing enough story and a clever twist or two, it lacks the consistent energy that fueled other entries in the series. In "Mary, Mary," Alex Cross heads to LA to investigate the murders of A-list Hollywood actresses. Ultimately, the story's criminal action moves rather briskly, but it's the time spent on Cross' personal life, particularly with his family, that slows the novel down. In the prior Cross novel's I've read, Patterson's inclusion of Cross' family provided a good counter to the murder mayhem Cross is surrounded in. However, the family scenes here mostly don't amount to more than Cross expressing his regret for the time his job forces him away from his kids. Patterson has explored this in the novel's I've read, and while it's a worthy facet to the Cross character, it becomes mundane and repetitive in "Mary, Mary." First of all - I LOVE James Patterson. I love the pace of his novels - the twists and turns - and the fact that his writing style clear and direct. But, I did not LOVE this one. It seemed disjointed and convuluted - like he was juggling too many balls at one time. The surprise ending was good - but by that time, I felt like I had worked a little too hard to follow the story.

This is an average James Patterson book -- better than some, not as good as others. I read it on a 4 1/2 hour flight and it was an easy read.

If you like plot twists and a multiple surprise ending, you will enjoy it very much. If you like detailed clues so you can figure out who done it as you read through the book, this one will leave you frustrated.

The sub-plot involving lead investigator Alex Cross' custody battle with his ex-wife is interesting, but ultimately unsatisfying.

Buy it used and enjoy a good quick read.

1. I'm the least capable to review Patterson's books in that this is the first one I've read. With that being said, I wasn't expecting much, but overall--> it was entertaining / engaging. Overall, it was definitely good enough for me to read another Patterson book.

Even though I purchased this textbook new, and the product description includes a summary of online resources, this book does not come with the online "Quia" code required by most intermediate Spanish classes. The code allows users to complete online workbook assignments for class. Standalone codes are sold for around $50 and are usually included with a new textbook.

I tried to cancel my order and was still sent the book. The book was in good condition but when I tried to contact the seller about returning it he never replied back to my numerous e-mails-Which was all he gave to contact him. I would recommend this book but not recommend this seller.

This book does not contain the Workbook required by College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, IL so it was not a good choice for Spanish II. I had to return it and go to the COD bookstore.

This text was required for a spanish class. I have to say it is the least helpful text I have ever used. The reviews in the back of the book are alright and the cultural information is great, but the main exercises are a bit confusing. I felt that there was a lot of information missing in the lessons. I had to fill in the gaps on my own with additional reference guides. If you are interested in cultural readings this might be alright but if you want a strong grammar foundation I would suggest looking elsewhere.

When I purchased this workbook, I expected it to be the same version as the one sold by the City College of San Francisco. But it is not. Because the complete workbook must consists of two parts: the written part and the conversation part. But the version sold by Amazon consists of only the written part which is not required by the teacher. So when I made a complaint to you, you sent me the same version again. This is a waste of time and money. I dont understand why your version is not the same as the one sold by the CCSF? I have no alternative but to return the replacement but to keep the first copy that I have paid, because I have already used part of it and you cannot replace me with the one I want.

Evaluación: - Okay for studying in a class, not online.
This book could be very educational...except if you're using it for an online class as I am. When I originally bought this book, I bought the audio sections with it. The book itself is very difficult to learn anything from unless you have the CD's to go with it. I also feel like it is geared toward high school students rather than college students, but that could just be my preference in styles. Overall, the book is a good book if you can learn from it and ignore the elementary style of the pictures, etc.

This book, along with the CDs, were required for my college Spanish class. I didn't know Spanish before the book, and seriously after almost a full semester of taking my Spanish class (1 month short, I dropped), I can't even form a full phrase by myself. The book is very unstructured, and often teaches the same thing two or three times as though you've never learned it before. The book, along with the lab manual lack ENGLISH! My teacher said the best way to learn a foreign language is to teach in the language (ie. not English). This may be true for very young kids who are still piecing together their own native language, but you cannot achieve adequate immersion in a classroom setting for only an hour or two every couple days.

This book's Spanish to English and visa versa reference is horrible. It doesn't even reference certain key words in phrases you're supposed to be able to translate for the assignments. It's completely fundamentally flawed for anyone over the age of 13. ... Leer Más

Conexiones 3rd Edition teaches us modern Spanish commonly used in Spain & Latin America. Definitely, the material is different than what we are use to if you are a native-Spanish speaker born in the United States. This Fall '09 Semester at Santa Monica College, CA will be the final semester in which the 3rd Edition will be used; the 4th Edition is now being used.

This is an excellent book for intermediate Spanish students. It teaches all Spanish grammar beginning with the most simple and includes the most difficult/advanced topics (subjunctive, etc.). It's written for an intermediate level student with a basic understanding of Spanish who wants to understand it on a deeper level. I highly recommend it!

I purchased this textbook 2 years ago because it looked interesting and informative and as Spanish language educator, I believe it is important to keep abreast of the lastest educative material on the market. Not only was I pleased with the content and the grammar topics covered in the book but I was particularly impressed with the cultural awareness themes in every chapter, the thorough explanation of the grammar concepts and the opportunity to prepare and discuss controversial themes in Spanish thus allowing to student to develop his/her vocabulary and speaking skills. This edition of Conexiones is a complete course for intermediate to advanced Spanish students and if studied thoroughly, to completion with a competent instructor, the student will have and above average foundation in Spanish which would be beneficial to his/her future studies in the Spanish language. I strongly recommend this textbook to teachers and students pursuing advanced knowledge in Spanish.

Bought this book 20+ years ago. Recommended by teacher. It totally changed my life. I learned to manage my thoughts and way of seeing things. I bought the spanish version for my little sister who is having challenging times. It would be great if everybody read this book and apply the stuff written there such as..."our wishes and prayers are only gratified and answered when they harmonize with our thoughts and actions"...you decide. This little book is a treasure!

Evaluación: - Good concepts but, they're not exactly original
This is one of dozens of self-help books that advocate changing your thoughts can change your life. Ruiz' gimmick is that these "agreements" came from ancient Toltec wisdom. I bought it for a self-help type class I was taking. The English version looked so easy I decided to make myself read it in Spanish. It turned out to be the easiest Spanish book I ever read. It was also very redundant. I enjoyed reading it and practicing my Spanish, but I think the four agreements could be summed up in about four to eight pages.
