I thoroughly enjoyed it. The protagonist, Jane, is narrating her biography, and the chronicle commences when she was ten years old, growing up with her cruel aunt and equally cruel cousins, who make her childhood miserable. She could hardly wait to get out of their grip to a school for orphanages, run by a saintly woman. There she befriends a girl, Amy, a noble and true friend, dying of consumption. Jane thrives in the school, later becoming a teacher for two years.

Disclaimer: Please excuse my spelling, I moved to the States when I was 27 from Asia so please bare with my spelling.

This is the best "diet book" I ever read. The tough love style of depicting the stomach turning facts of the how the whole meat industry work, the references they quote in everything they wrote is very informative. I suspect some of the one start reviews are written by people who have direct interest or connection with the meat industry (I noticed a lot of the people who gave one star to this book this is the only review they gave in their profile. Makes me wonder did they just create a username to give a review to this one book??? While I do agree with most of the things mentioned in this book. I don't know that it was totally necessary that the writers take the "in your face" approach. I can see why others believe that this is not a good dieting book, and it was misleading since it mentions nowhere that the diet, in order to be a "Skinny Bitch", is to become vegan. I have given it some thought over the years, and if anything this book has made me strongly consider it, but not because of the health aspect. I was literally crying, reading the "You are what you eat" chapter, where they talk about what goes on in the slaughter houses. I think most of us know what occurs in those places, but we don't want to think about it. Rather, we'd prefer to just enjoy our meat and dairy, without considering what happened to the animals who provided it.

This is the worse $12 I have EVER spent! As a marathon runner, extreme healthy eater, personal trainer and someone with a background in healthcare, I was anxious to see what this book had to offer. I forced myself to read to page 64 (thinking it might get better) and eventually had to quit reading. I will not read anymore of this disgusting book and will most likely donate it to a library. The information is completly bogus!! After reading only 3 chapters, I discovered that coffee, milk, protein, and all meat is bad for me.....seriously?? I was shocked at the completly untrue information in this book. I think I will continue to follow my own knowledgable eating habits and stay far, far away from what these women have written.

I recommend this book highly to my psychotherapy clients as a way to change their negative thoughts into more positive thinking. They are able to feel empowered as they change their style of thinking and this often results in a reduction or elimination of depression and anxiety. This is my favorite book. I re-read it from time to time. I waited 10 years for Bourgeois to write another book like it, and I got my wish this year with Righteous Dopefiend (which did not disappoint). As a resident of New York and a recent resident of the South Bronx I was able to witness firsthand the injustices that happen daily to minorities.

If you liked Bourgeois' books, read Jonathan Kozol's books.

First I would like to say that I did see the movie and it lit a bulb for me so i decided to go ahead and read the book. The book pretty much states the same advice as the movie "if a guy is into you he will make it happen". One part that was very true in the movie but wasn't as touched upon in the book was how women all get together and make excuses for the guy who is not acting as he should which is VERY TRUE especially among younger women.
I would say that the book is a pretty good light read. Yes a lot of this stuff is common sense such as don't date someone who is married or who cheats on you but you'd be surprised how often women don't use those bits of common sense and I felt because they were written out in front of you they are much easier to confront head on and hopefully think about. That being said I liked the way they wrote together with Greg writing the general rules and liz answering them as a single woman and how she might feel on the topic. I found this book to be hilarious! It was very easy to relate to, since i've been in several of the situations provided (or my friends have). I also liked hearing a man's side. Women over analyze things about relationships that really are straight forward and simple. If he's into you, he will call. It was also nice to see in print that i'm not the only one to be so confused by men! haha. If you are looking for a funny and insightful read into understanding guy behavior i recommend this book.

I did enjoy reading this book as it solved some of my on-going dating mysteries. One thing that any woman should get out of reading this book is the importance of not wasting your time with the wrong person. I think that the very strong theme in this book makes a point, repeatedly, to emphasize that a guy is either head-over-heels for you and will do anything to be with you, or he won't. That's it. My biggest take from this read is how I am now going to be much better at recognizing excuses that guys make. The book taught me that all of those excuses are just that, and that the right guy will have all of the right reasons to be with me and nothing more.

Stephen Covey is one of the most prominent self help gurus with international best selling books, seminars and training programs. I am a particular fan of Covey because his books are usually grounded in established principles of human behavior.

While this book is listed in category of self help and business, I would consider it as a welcome addition to the area of psychology and Positive Psychology in particular.

I have always loved "Sense and Sensibility" and wanted to expand into more of Austen's works. This one did not disappoint! It is a fantastic tale with all the usual Austen humor and wittiness that work so well in her stories! In fact, it is now up there with "Sense" as my favorite Austen work!

Her sentences can be long and complex, with some confusion of pronouns, so that they need to be lingered on, their sense teased out of them, until their structure and meaning is revealed, exactly as one would do with poetry. The effect is immensely satisfying.

She spends almost no time on descriptions of place, but when she does she shows herself capable of describing a scene succinctly and effectively. Her main focus is on character.
