Evaluación: - Good advice but take it with a grain of salt
First I would like to say that I did see the movie and it lit a bulb for me so i decided to go ahead and read the book. The book pretty much states the same advice as the movie "if a guy is into you he will make it happen". One part that was very true in the movie but wasn't as touched upon in the book was how women all get together and make excuses for the guy who is not acting as he should which is VERY TRUE especially among younger women.
I would say that the book is a pretty good light read. Yes a lot of this stuff is common sense such as don't date someone who is married or who cheats on you but you'd be surprised how often women don't use those bits of common sense and I felt because they were written out in front of you they are much easier to confront head on and hopefully think about. I found this book to be hilarious! It was very easy to relate to, since i've been in several of the situations provided (or my friends have). I also liked hearing a man's side. Women over analyze things about relationships that really are straight forward and simple. If he's into you, he will call. It was also nice to see in print that i'm not the only one to be so confused by men! haha. If you are looking for a funny and insightful read into understanding guy behavior i recommend this book.

I did enjoy reading this book as it solved some of my on-going dating mysteries. One thing that any woman should get out of reading this book is the importance of not wasting your time with the wrong person. I think that the very strong theme in this book makes a point, repeatedly, to emphasize that a guy is either head-over-heels for you and will do anything to be with you, or he won't. That's it. My biggest take from this read is how I am now going to be much better at recognizing excuses that guys make. The book taught me that all of those excuses are just that, and that the right guy will have all of the right reasons to be with me and nothing more.

Since all of us have, at one time or another, encountered unsafe people, this is a book you wish you had read early in life. The authors describe 11 personality traits and 9 interpersonal traits of unsafe people. As you are reading about these unsafe people traits, you also learn what safe people are like. The book has a section that explains how we got to be unsafe people. The reader is encouraged to take a look at himself to determine whether he has a "safety deficit". A very beneficial book!

I have always loved "Sense and Sensibility" and wanted to expand into more of Austen's works. This one did not disappoint! It is a fantastic tale with all the usual Austen humor and wittiness that work so well in her stories! In fact, it is now up there with "Sense" as my favorite Austen work!

The first sentence in the novel really sets the stage for all the mistakes the main character makes throughout! If you liked Pride and Prejudice, this will probably amuse you, but it's not quite as memorable. The characters are hilarious and the plot twist rather unpredictable. I enjoyed it a great deal.

Jane Austen's Emma was published in December 1815, when she was forty years old (just 19 months before she died). It is thus a work of her mature period, and is something of a favorite among her devotees.

My admiration of Austen's work is partly for her insight into human nature but also for the sheer beauty of her prose. It has a poetic texture. Her sentences can be long and complex, with some confusion of pronouns, so that they need to be lingered on, their sense teased out of them, until their structure and meaning is revealed, exactly as one would do with poetry. The effect is immensely satisfying.

She spends almost no time on descriptions of place, but when she does she shows herself capable of describing a scene succinctly and effectively. Her main focus is on character. Evaluación: - Highly Recommend Boundaries In Dating
This book was a great source of healing and comfort for me in my time of crisis, as I had just broken up with my fiance. As I was doing the autopsy of the relationship, I was able to identify and understand the dynamics of what had taken place, why our relationship got set up the way it did, and why it lead to our demise. The book is abridged and read by the authors which, I believe, helps the material be more concise and easier to absorb and integrate. Most importantly, I was able to see the dysfunctional items that belonged to me as well as to my partner. I highly recommend this material; either book or audio CD version.

Evaluación: - Speaks Volumes!
I enjoyed this book from end to end. The authors covered all the basis: from how to incorporate God into your dating, to look at personal inadequacies before engaging in a God-centered relationship, keeping yourself respect, and knowing the difference between "settling" or compromising with someone that could be a potential best friend for life.

Although some of the topics, to some degree, were not pertinent to my life, they were, however were good reads and reference points for the future. I don't think that these boundaries are necessarily just for romantic relationships. These ideas can easily be related to interpersonal friendships.

Without realizing it (the Amazon page showed the reviews for the full-length book), I mistakenly ordered a little "Inspirio/Zondervan Miniature Edition". This is an itsy little 3" square condensation of the full-length book--NOT WHAT I HAD IN MIND!!! I'm posting this on the page for the miniature edition, and we'll see if it gets added to the reviews for the full-length book. BINGO!--sorry to see that it DID get posted on the page for the full-length book, a very different product than what I was reviewing. Sorry to see that this review reflects upon that product just as I was sorry to discover that all the glowing reviews of that product reflected upon the little thing I purchased.

This is a case where purchasing the book at a bookstore rather than Amazon would have had a better outcome. Oh well!

Evaluación: - Preaches Christanity, Refers to all women being one way, all men being another.
I was so excited to order and recieve this book, as I am getting married in September '10 to my boyfriend of 7 years. I even ordered the workbooks. We were heartbreakingly disappointed in all of them. I'm glad it's helped others, but it's not for us and we'll be returning them.

We were particularly irritated at the sections that speak of the three things "women" need and the three things that "men" need - things that their partner is responsible to give them. According to the book, I'm more of a man than a woman (and my fiance would be the first to disagree with that one!)I was enraged by the condescending tone of it all, which the book says is very uncommon for women to feel when disrespected. My fiance gently says it pissed him off too, saying that the book is trying to tell us how we feel and think as if we were incompetent and couldn't come up with anything on our own.

My husband and I are a younger, newly married couple. We were looking for a 'light devotional' type book we could do together. We came upon Night Light and are really enjoying it. We set aside time before bed each night to read the day's story together. We alternate nights reading and asking the questions. Some nights our conversations are light and quick. Other nights the story or questions require us to go beyond the surface. I look forward to book time every night. We plan on buying this book to give to our friends who are getting married soon too.

Dr. Dobson and his wife Shirley did a wonderful job of putting together this devotional. For 6 months couples are encouraged and grow together with each other and God through these 10 minute devotions. We ordered this book after reading the reviews and were not disappointed. By the time I had finished the introduction I already had tears running down my face. This book can really help build a strong foundation for couples and I highly recommend it to anyone who believes that marriage is for life. All couples can value from this book, regardless of religious orientation but it certainly is geared toward Christians. Rated 5 Stars.

This was my first introduction to Bret Easton Ellis and it won't be my last! Quick read. Definitely gets into your head and you may find yourself reading with all the lights on. A very interesting blend of truth and fantasy. Just how much of each is up for debate!

This was my first Ellis book and it touches on many of his other stories. I wish I would have read his other books prior to reading this so I wasn't as out of touch, however, most was explained and it didn't impact my enjoyment from this book at all. I only wished I had more of an insight into his mind!

Evaluación: - Half of a Great Return/Progression
I've never been so divided by a book's first and second halves. A longtime Ellis fan who read Glamorama with one eye closed but came to appreciate it deeply long after it was finished, I can say that the same is not true of Lunar Park.

The first half is amazing. It's a great return to form for Ellis, but adds new layers of self-reference and pitch-black comedy that I found very refreshing and daring. Seriously, the first half is one of the funniest books I've ever read. He makes no bones about criticizing himself (via a hall-of-mirrors alter ego named Bret Easton Ellis) or his own reputation as a writer. It's great stuff.

And then it falls apart. I can't say he didn't take a big risk with the second-half descent into Stephen King-like internal torture, but it is neither enjoyable reading or revealing of anything at all. At least with Glamorama, I may not have ENJOYED it exactly, but I couldn't ignore its ability to reveal, re-contextualize and then distort its own world. In this ... Leer Más

I've never given a book a negative review, preferring to "say nothing at all if you can't say something nice ..". This, however, was a truly awful book - one I am sure would never have been published if the author wasn't already Someone Famous. I've never read a novel and had to take so many breaks to puzzle over what in the world was the author trying to say; flipping back pages and rereading in the hopes that this (previously excellent) author was perhaps making sense after all. No dice. I had to laugh out loud when I saw that there were positive reviews comparing this effort to Lovecraft or Poe. The only "dream-like" quality this book had was that it is nightmarishly bad. It is self-indulgent, disjointed, disorganized, and poorly imitative of a half-dozen horror authors. Mr. Ellis has done himself, and his audience, a disfavor with this silly effort.

It's really hard for me to position this book as if I like it or not. I have read all his other books (except for The Informers) and enjoyed every one, I think Glamorama is my favorite. Anyways the beginning of this book is very, very interesting since Ellis puts himself out there and has such a story to tell with becoming famous at a young age. But when it moves toward the actual story, I found quite a disconnect. I find it really hard to explain the book since it gets fairly twisted and disturbing but if you are looking for a similar book to his others, this is not one of them.

This is one of the worst examples of flagrant miss-use of scientific langugage. Only because I believed the scientific impression of the title did I buy the book in Spanish and English in order to be a tool for improving my spanish. Even if that is about $50 wasted, I WILL NOT waste any time on ANY of it. I want to enjoy the information that I read when I improve my spanish, not read nonsense and prattle. I will improve my spanish by HONEST and interesting books. They say that religious people in general can be trusted more than non religious people. Well that is absolutely NOT the case. Here is a case of religious people TRYING EVERYTHING to take you in, and they have NO IDEA that their dishonesty is as clear as the sun on a clear day. Dishonesty is LYING and the xth commandment is supposed to tell them "thou shalt not lie"; "thou shalt not bear false witness". Pretending Science while sprouting Religion is lying, is dishonesty, is bearing false witness.

I read this book primarily to study and implement what was written about "The Phantom Mom". The information was satisfactory and insightful, but I thought that perhaps more could be said about the solution phase or implementing the plans of action. The symptoms the authors gave were spot on. I grew up without a mother and the symptoms of having a phantom mom were so fitting that it looked like I was reading my life story. Basically, the only solution the authors suggest is to seek out friends who have what one has missed growing up without a mother. It's overly simplified because as was mentioned in the book people like me who've grown up without a mom have severe relational problems. What I think should have been emphasized about the phantom mom offspring is that we should practice eliciting what we want from others more (i.e. warmth and empathy, nonintrusiveness, mutual dependency, honesty).

At first I was excited about this book. Now, I am not so sure. I think they are ignoring the cultural bias we have in america towards independence from family. Their work does not seem to be based on clinical research, but just experience in therapy. Many of the outcomes are the same.... anxiety, depression. There are many reasons for one to experience such difficulties, not just mom. The book contributes to the mom bashing we already hear about in therapy. It does call for some responsibility on the reader's part to change, but not enough. Aren't we supposed to honor our parents? They do not operate in a vacuum. We helped create our own existence. Wondering how biblical this book is really.... It really is just a pop psychology book with little substance to back it. It may be helpful for some self awareness, but like I said.... not so sure.

I think this book will be great for some people, but it really didn't help me all that much. The different mothers hardly applied to my situation with my own mother. The controlling chapter fit a little bit, but all it talked about was "learning to say no" and finding your identity. I was the one who rebelled, and I held onto my identity very well. The mothers in this book were much more loving than mine was. It would have been nice if they talked about mothers who were verbally, emotionally, and physically abusive. Where's the "Bi-Polar Mom" in this book?? From a real young age (around 7) I teamed up with God determined to turn out just fine. I even grew up setting my own boundries & parented myself (ex: I wouldn't allow myself to see PG13 movies until I was 13... my mom however could have cared less). I read this in attempt to understand why my mother does the things she does. I've tried to reconcile with my mother, but she refuses to have a relationship with me at all. I picked up this book to help me deal with my elderly mother. I had an abusive upbringing and need to come to terms with it. This book was awesome! It doesn't blame the mother at all, but gives help to the adult child on how to compensate for what mom didn't have to give. It was also invaluable to me to see mistakes I am making with my own children, and how to correct them. I will say, the book does get pretty deep into psychology...some parts are a difficult read.
