Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - so funny and true
This book is a must in every girls bookshelf. I loved it. Funny, interesting and educational!

Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - Good advice but take it with a grain of salt
First I would like to say that I did see the movie and it lit a bulb for me so i decided to go ahead and read the book. The book pretty much states the same advice as the movie "if a guy is into you he will make it happen". One part that was very true in the movie but wasn't as touched upon in the book was how women all get together and make excuses for the guy who is not acting as he should which is VERY TRUE especially among younger women.
I would say that the book is a pretty good light read. Yes a lot of this stuff is common sense such as don't date someone who is married or who cheats on you but you'd be surprised how often women don't use those bits of common sense and I felt because they were written out in front of you they are much easier to confront head on and hopefully think about. That being said I liked the way they wrote together with Greg writing the general rules and liz answering them as a single woman and how she might feel on the topic. This book also included ... Evaluación: 3 out of 5 stars - Mission Accomplished
When I got this book, I just wanted to read something that would make me laugh. Mission accomplished. I thought this was a funny book. I could relate to it bc I have friends in some situations that were described in the book. I will pass this book on so I don't have to be the one to say 'he will call'.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Funny and Entertaining.
I found this book to be hilarious! It was very easy to relate to, since i've been in several of the situations provided (or my friends have). I also liked hearing a man's side. Women over analyze things about relationships that really are straight forward and simple. If he's into you, he will call. It was also nice to see in print that i'm not the only one to be so confused by men! haha. If you are looking for a funny and insightful read into understanding guy behavior i recommend this book.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - I wish I knew some of this stuff 10 years ago
I did enjoy reading this book as it solved some of my on-going dating mysteries. One thing that any woman should get out of reading this book is the importance of not wasting your time with the wrong person. I think that the very strong theme in this book makes a point, repeatedly, to emphasize that a guy is either head-over-heels for you and will do anything to be with you, or he won't. That's it. My biggest take from this read is how I am now going to be much better at recognizing excuses that guys make. The book taught me that all of those excuses are just that, and that the right guy will have all of the right reasons to be with me and nothing more.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Once Upon a Time...
Described as "an utterly charming fairy tale in the tradition of The Princess Bride and The Neverending Story," Neil Gaiman's Stardust is an extremely bewitching and absolutely addictive story that will have you turning pages well into the night to discover what will become of Tristan and the star. The magic contained within the pages of Stardust makes for a fantastic fairy tale for adults.

Neil Gaiman has created a motley cast of characters in Stardust - witches, fairies, gypsies, ghosts, sprites, unicorns and of course, the star. Our hero Tristran Thorne sets out on his quest and is quickly swept up in the adventure of his young life. Tristran is honorable and kind - a charming and extremely likable character. Surrounded by a cast of intriguing eccentrics, Tristran must retrieve the star in order to win the hand of the fair maiden Victoria.

Gaiman has conceived an entire world of wild enchantment and intrigue. With a swift moving plot, fully developed, realistic ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 3 out of 5 stars - A decent story of fantasy and love
I saw the movie Stardust and was interested in reading the book to hope for a better story because everyone always says books are better than movies. And the book had some variations from the movie, but overall it was pretty similar. Some parts were a tad slow though and honestly I didn't think the book was really better than the movie. They were just different. I still think the book was worth reading, and definitely so if you haven't seen the movie.

Evaluación: 3 out of 5 stars - Not too bad
Perhaps I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't seen the movie first... I couldn't help making comparisons as I was reading it. It was a good story, lots of imagination and originality. Also, the writing style was clear and entertaining to read. But, the love story was kind of lacking, with point A to B with no stops in between. The ending was also anticlimactic. It wasn't a bad book at all, but not my favorite fantasy novel either. I give it 3.5 stars.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - We deserve good fairy tales
Adults deserve good fairy tales, too ~Neil Gaiman.

I have trouble being honest and critical with a well written book. Someone like Gaiman, in all his work so far, is able to create a world and characters that just pull you in and don't let you go. He is able to create the myths that make me suspend disbelief and the critical and writerly mind and just let go.

He does it here in _Stardust_. I have nothing to add in terms of the conflict or the characters because I lived and interacted with them. Books like this remind me why I loved reading so much when I was younger, before I sucked all the fun out by going to graduate school. Perhaps the resolution was telepgraphed to the reader, but that only comes out on reflection. Go get everything he's ever written, and remind yourself why you liked reading too.

We deserve good fairy tales, and we get them from Neil Gaiman. Thank you Neil.

Evaluación: 3 out of 5 stars - Not much to say.
Though a classic, this certainly wasn't a favorite of mine. I love the way Gabriel García Márquez writes and the way this book reads, but I wasn't a huge fan of the story itself. It was difficult for me to feel much sympathy for Florentino's character when he was such a gross player. And it was also difficult for me to feel much sympathy for Fermina, when she so selfishly rejected love and turned her back on Florentino.

Overall, I think Gabriel García Márquez is an amazing, gifted writer.. I just wasn't thrilled with the story itself.

Evaluación: 1 out of 5 stars - A deeply disturbing plot, the worst book I've ever read
Maybe some people can argue about the literary value of this book, but there's the bottom line, a self-deceiving lunatic/rapist/child molester does not invoke the slightest sympathy. To sleep with a minor is wrong, period, no matter under what circumstances! To sleep with countless women without protection is also deeply disturbing. All is disguised under the name of " unrequited love", but really after finishing the book I still couldn't possibly believe what happenend between Florentino Ariza and Fermina was love. It was a naive childhood crush that never fruit to love. I question the dwindling morals of the society after leaning how many people have highly rated the book. Least to say it is the most disturbing and uncomfortable book I have ever put my hands on.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - "the symptoms of love were the same as those of cholera"
After reading - and hating One Hundred Years of Solitude (P.S.) - I felt I owed it to myself (and to Marquez) to give him another chance. I am so glad I did. _Love in the Time of Cholera_ is lyric, beautiful and moving. It is about love - unrequited love, the intracacies of marriage, the differences between mere physical love and that deeper, most noble of emotions. It is also about life. A romantic, I was deeply struck by the depth of emotion the characters share and the committment one will make in the name of love.

As teens, Florintino Ariza and Fermina Daza fall desparately in love. Yet as she matures, Fermina "outgrows" her feelings and is married to a physician, Dr. Juvenal Urbino, who later becomes a pillar of the community. In spite of this, Florintino continues to love Fermina, watching her from afar, waiting fifty-one years for her husband to die in order for him to once again enter her life. Of course, with such a passage of time, both Florintino and Fermina have ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Like real life, love stories aren't so simple
What a great story. While it may seem simply like a tale of unrequetted or delayed love, it is much more and is more enjoyable everytime I read it. After just a brief encounter, Florentino falls in love with Fermina when they are young, but she is forced to marry another, and Florentino thereafter pines after her until her husband, Dr. Juvenal Urbino dies and he can again declare his love to her. What happens to them between these times and the short story afterwards is what makes this story great. You'll find in the end an understanding of and have a deep feeling for all three characters.

Evaluación: 2 out of 5 stars - Not that great
I was really disappointed with this book. I could hardly get through it. The first 25-30 pages have little (if anything) to do with the rest of the book. I have to question what the point was of the first 10 or so pages. Also, I don't "buy" the kind of love that this book is about - that someone would wile away the greater part of his life waiting for and being in love with the same woman. Hey, there are "other fish in the sea" - most people eventually move on. And the bit about a man in his 60's having and affair with the 14-year-old girl that he was supposed to protect and be responsible for. And then dropping her when the 70-year-old he's loved for 50+ years becomes available. Yeah, right! Some of the description was beautiful but the entire plot doesn't represent "real life" at all. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone!

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - A Wonderful and Light Austen Read!
I have always loved "Sense and Sensibility" and wanted to expand into more of Austen's works. This one did not disappoint! It is a fantastic tale with all the usual Austen humor and wittiness that work so well in her stories! In fact, it is now up there with "Sense" as my favorite Austen work!

"Emma Woodhouse, handsome, clever, and rich, with a comfortable home and happy disposition, seemed to unite some of the best blessings of existence; and had lived nearly twenty-one years in the world with very little to distress or vex her."

The first sentence in the novel really sets the stage for all the mistakes the main character makes throughout! This novel tells the story of Emma Woodhouse, a privileged young lady who, with nothing else to occupy her time, loves matchmaking among her friends. She loves it so much that she doesn't pay any attention to her true love right under her nose! Of course things don't go the way Emma would like and there are the usual misunderstandings ... Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - Emma means well, but...
***spoiler alert *** I didn't expect to like this book, because lots of readers usually mention how annoying and meddlesome Emma Woodhouse is. But I liked Emma. There's no anxious, annoying mother trying to marry off all of her daughters, because, unlike a lot of Austen heroines, Emma doesn't have to worry about marrying for money or marrying at all. She's already rich and happy and has a big house of her own. She's independent. Sure she meddles and gossips and is really bad at matchmaking, but she does all this wit...more I didn't expect to like this book, because lots of readers usually mention how annoying and meddlesome Emma Woodhouse is. Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - Emma--another entertaining Austen soap opera
If you liked Pride and Prejudice, this will probably amuse you, but it's not quite as memorable. The characters are hilarious and the plot twist rather unpredictable. I enjoyed it a great deal.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Exquisite
Jane Austen's Emma was published in December 1815, when she was forty years old (just 19 months before she died). It is thus a work of her mature period, and is something of a favorite among her devotees.

My admiration of Austen's work is partly for her insight into human nature but also for the sheer beauty of her prose. It has a poetic texture. Her sentences can be long and complex, with some confusion of pronouns, so that they need to be lingered on, their sense teased out of them, until their structure and meaning is revealed, exactly as one would do with poetry. The effect is immensely satisfying.

She spends almost no time on descriptions of place, but when she does she shows herself capable of describing a scene succinctly and effectively. Her main focus is on character. She describes her characters and their motivation at length, and reveals them through dialogue. This emphasis on dialogue makes her work eminently suitable for dramatization, so it is no surprise ... Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - my first Danielle Steel experience..
I really liked this book. I hadn't read any of her books before and I owned 3 of them I got from a bookstore a while back and decided to go with this one because it seemed the most interesting. It was a good first choice..Very good book, she keeps you interested right from the beginning and throughout the entire book you are constantly wanting to know what happens next which is the fun part of reading a book! I do agree with someone that wrote a review saying that it tends to get a bit repetitive but it's not really in a bad way. One of the big things I noticed about Danielle Steel, is the way she writes. She words things nicely and keeps the interest without trailing off about stuff you don't care about. The story is very suspensful at times and also very sad. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because it seems like she tries cramming the ending all in one chapter. Like she made the middle of the book so big and at the end she just had rush it. Other than that, great book..highly recommended!

Evaluación: 2 out of 5 stars - Qué pérdida de tiempo

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Un relato enganchante de principio a fin

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Cautivadora

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Impresionante!!!

Evaluación: 3 out of 5 stars - La Concubina del Diablo
This novel is a very interesting reading. Here we find this woman who encounters a fallen angel and they fall in love. What happens with them is very romantic in some sense but at same time kind of disturbing for someone's mind. It makes you wonder about your own mortality and puts endless questions without answers. In overall a very interesting story but I personally do not care to read something like this again.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - deserves to be read
The Age of Innocence is a book that modern readers will perhaps find hard to appreciate. Not so much from the writing itself -- Edith Wharton is one of the masters of literary craft and this book won her the Pulitzer Prize for literature in 1921. Rather, modern readers, raised in an age of independence and the anti-hero, where cultural standards are routinely smacked down with a hammer, may just not understand or have patience for the conflicts and dilemmas raised in the book. In exquisite detail, Edith brings the cultural boundaries, customs, and mores of upper class New York in the 1870s to life, primarily through the relationships between Newland Archer, May Welland, and Ellen Olenska. The characters are conflicted by having to balance restrictions and customs of their class, and their feelings of duty and honor, against human emotions of love and passion. I think modern readers should really give this book a chance, as it offers a rare insight into a world long forgotten, and if only for that, it deserves ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - Audio book version is quite good
This is another in a series of classics I have been listening to on my commute. This is my first time through the novel, though I have seen several movie versions of the novel in the past.

My reaction to the audio book was fairly positive. The narrator, David Horowitch, generally did a very good job. His characterizations were fairly good, though not in the same league as a Jim Dale. I still had to pay attention to which character was speaking, though I could tell the two main characters apart. My biggest complaint was how he spoke too quietly where I couldn't understand him. It was appropriate at those points in the story, but it was too much. Since I am driving, the road noise is too great to handle such a dynamic range.

The novel itself is excellent and does a good job showing the social norms of the time and the struggles Newland had in dealing with them. It effectively showed the temptations that many people have dealt with, and one man's response to those temptations.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton
The Age of Innocence is about Newland Archer, an indifferent lawyer who is engaged to the prim and proper May Welland but secretly develops the hots for her independent, fiery cousin Ellen Olenska. Their feelings intensify only in bits and pieces, for their stifling social world would never look well upon an engaged man having an affair with a woman of already questionable repute. As they grow closer they are driven further apart, both by custom and by human manipulation, all of which are far from innocent.

The Age of Innocence is many things- biting social satire, sharp-edged character study, and a sympathetic observation of one of the most constricted romances in the history of literature. It is also an incredibly entertaining book, with sentence after elegant sentence finely constructing this little world of turn-of-the-century upper-crust New York that is now far gone. It is also a complete work; at its end I felt completely satisfied because nothing was left out, no relevant nuance or character ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Required Listening
My last experience with Edith Wharton was "Ethan Frome" in high school nearly 40 years ago, a book I've forgotten entirely. On a hunch and because of its modest price ($20), I recently bought the "Age of Innocence" to listen to during my morning commute. What a stunningly sublime accident my small purchase turned out to be: This is beautifully rendered reading of "Innocence" that will captivate, thrill and, yes, even elevate the most literate. From the opening paragraphs you're immediately drawn into a 19th century New York opera house and dazzled with Wharton's rich, adroit descriptions of the performance and, most keenly, members of the audience sitting in their private boxes many of whom will become the novel's leading characters. Wharton paints chapter after chapter wtih brilliantly nuanced scenes filled with sharply etched characters whose words stay with me throughout my work day. Wharton's lush lanuage and precise dialogue never flags. You'll hear words pronounced you may have read before but have never ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Passion and the outsider
It was a glittering, sumptuous time when hypocrisy was expected, discreet infidelity tolerated, and unconventionality ostracized.

That is the Gilded Age, and nobody knew its hypocrises better than Edith Wharton.... and nobody portrayed them as well. "The Age of Innocence" is a trip back in time to the stuffy upper crust of "old New York," taking us through one respectable man's hopeless love affair with a beautiful woman -- and the life he isn't brave enough to have.

Newland Archer, of a wealthy old New York family, has become engaged to pretty, naive May Welland. But as he tries to get their wedding date moved up, he becomes acquainted with May's exotic cousin, Countess Ellen Olenska, who has returned home after dumping her cheating husband. At first, the two are just friends, but Newland becomes more and more entranced by the Countess' easy, free-spirited European charm.

After Newland marries May, the attraction to the mysterious Countess and her free, unconventional life becomes ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 1 out of 5 stars - Eduardo el Vampiro amistoso.

Ok, so I'm going to go against my principles and give this book 4 stars. Any romance novel on this level doesn't deserve any more then 3 starts as far as I'm concerned but reading through the reviews, the 3star reviews were so negative, I figured it deserves one star more ...

Anyway, out of the Texas!Tyler trilogy, this is by far the best. Unlike Chase and Lucky, the "Alpha imbeciles" as I like to refer to them, this book has a very nice, level headed, funny (as in actually funny; most of Brown's heros only think they're funny when they're actually annoying) and, surprisingly enough, extremely sexy hero in Harlan. I ussualy don't go for Brown's heros (i read the books for a bit of mindless entertainment but keep rolling my eyes at the hero's antics) but Harlan got under my skin a little ...

Evaluación: 3 out of 5 stars - Just Fair
I did not like the character of this book. She reminded me of a spoiled brat with bully brothers. Considering her education she didn't seem to be very smart. I really did not care for this book very much and was glad to have finished it so I could read something more interesting and entertaining. This was not one of Sandra Brown's better novels.

Evaluación: 3 out of 5 stars - Not as good as the first 2 but it was o.k....
Sage is book #3 in this 3 books series. Book #1 is Lucky & Book #2 is Chase.

I have to agree with another reviewer who stated that the charm had worn off by this book. I really enjoyed the other 2 books & after meeting Sage in the first book I could wait to read her story but it just never really pulled me in the way I had hoped. I think part of my problem was that I thought the book was more about their business then the relationship between Sage & Harlan. I think I enjoyed seeing Chase & Lucky more than I did Sage. Those 2 crack me up & I just kept looking forward to the scenes with them.

Since I still enjoyed the first 2 so well I would have to say that as a package I recommend this 3 book series.
