Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Probably the Best in the series!
I think this is my favorite book of the series! This is the book where all the stories of the characters really start to come out and the action starts. I really enjoyed getting the back stories of more of the characters. This I think is one of the most entertaining of them all and I would totally recommend it.

Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - Loves Triangle
I enjoyed "Eclipse" the best out of the saga. Bella finally comes clean about her feelings for Jacob. Edward & Jacob work together to save Bella.
The danger that comes to Forks & wanting to see who "Bella"chooses makes this a page turner.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Eclipse (3d in the Twilight Series)
I was not certain that Ms. Meyers could continue this story as well she has. While this is the weakest of the books (my opinion), it is still very, very good. Like the other two books, this book is written well and easy to read. It seems to be a trend for me, but I read this book in one day and then read it again the next week, just like the other two. All three are as good the second time around as they are the first. i am highly impressed with Ms. Meyer's ability to continue the story line, answer questions from the previous books and keep you wanting more and more. Very addicting for one who likes to read high quality fiction. Once again, I highly recommend reading this series.

Evaluación: 3 out of 5 stars - Kept waiting for Victoria to hurry up and kill Bella
Cons: Sometimes you have to read a book for what it is and stop trying to say what you'd do in that situation. But other times it's very difficult to decipher between the two, and this book was one of those times. I honestly just wanted somebody to kill Bella so she'd stop whining. I don't remember her being this pitiful in the movie, but she was pathetic in the book. She was so glued to Edward's side that I wondered why she didn't ask him to wipe her after she used the bathroom, too. I can't tolerate weak female characters, which is probably why I love Alice, Victoria and Jane so much. They're strong characters who don't take any B.S. from anybody and know how to control themselves. Bella spent 75 percent of the book crying, screaming for Edward, begging for him to be wherever she was, running to hug him, trying to bribe him into having sex with her and manipulating Jacob. She had no outside interests and seemed to live suffocatingly on Earth just to be with Edward...and Jacob. I wanted ... Leer Más

Spoilers and a load of Twilight bashing is ahead

I've hated Twilight forever now. The books are boring and plotless, with no conflicts or no meaning to it. Bella is selfish, whiny, dull, backstabbing, heartless, and as boring as the books are. Edward is a stalker and an obsessive boyfriend. Jacob is love-sick puppy dog with nothing better to do but whine about his non-connection with Bella. Charlie is as dead as the fish he brings home from his endless fishing trips. Renee is airheaded. Every character`has a large amount of flaws to make Bella seemingly perfect despite her rediculous clumsiness.

Eclipse plot- If there even IS a plot here. Bella is supposadly in love with Edward and Jacob. But it is so obvious who she is going to pick this book isnt even needed. Meanwhile, Victoria is putting together a newborn vampire army in order to kill Bella, to get back at Edward for killing James. That of course means every vampire and werewolf in Forks has to protect ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - There must be something in books
Books are dangerous. They're full of ideas that make people think about the world, feel passion, and perhaps act out. That's not good for society; it causes conflict, uprising, and interference with the status quo. People who read and think scare people who don't, so most citizens have happily given up the right to decide what to think about and now let the government fill their brains with constant loud mindless entertainment. This managed input has equalized society; nobody feels inferior to anyone else and there's no conflict anymore. Dull minds, constant entertainment, and conformity make society run smoothly.

Guy Montag works as a fireman. He burns books at night while his wife sits in her parlor and listens to inane media shows at high volume. But Clarice, the teenager next door, is different. Her family sits around and talks. They discuss things and they laugh with each other. Guy wonders what they talk about as he watches his wife talk to the strangers on TV and pop sleeping ... Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Brilliant, depressing, electrifying, profound!!
Ray Bradbury's books make for immediate, mesmerizing, entirely compulsive reading. His prose is electrifying in its use of poetic metaphor and dramatic syntax. The reader is instantly plunged into an alien culture, or a terrifying future, and is not really released even after the last page is turned.

I had been postponing reading this novel for years. I am, after all, a confirmed bibliophile. Reading a novel with a plot involving the burning of books would, I kept telling myself, be too traumatic for me.

I finally decided to wade in.

Need I say that I only put the book down when I absolutely had to, when reality intruded? The novel carried me along on its relentless wave of narrative. Of course, I tried not to picture the books burning as I read, but Bradbury wouldn't let me. Not when he was describing them as living creatures, dying, their pigeon wings flapping.... The fact that I managed to endure this at all is a real tribute to the greatness of his writing. ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - "I hate a Roman named Status Quo!"
This book is all about one man's struggle against the status quo- even more frightening for him because he lives in a world where firemen are not the rescuers but the fire starters. They rush to houses not to put out fires but to burn them, and only those that hold the most heinous crimes against the state- books.

Guy Montag did his duty as a fireman till one day a girl- a free thinker- held a dandelion under his chin and woke him up.

His world turned upside down he made a stand and then had to run for his life- watched all the while by inhabitants of the city glued to their wall tv sets, numbed and dumbed down by the very thing that holds them enthralled.

Yet, Montag makes his escape, becoming more important than he ever could have realized while his world disintegrates around him- literally.

I read Fahrenheit 451 ages ago and it was fun to revisit it with older eyes. I thought I remembered this as a dystopian rant against state run government- perhaps ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Timeless
I just finished reading this book for the third time and it simply gets better with age, like a vintage wine. How can we picture a world where there are no books, particularly novels?

Like most of us on Amazon, I'm a voracious reader and have been since I was in elementary school. Books transport us to another world and allow us to have insight into lives, situations other countries that we may never otherwise experience. Good books pose tough questions about ethics, coping with adversity, and dealing with loss, sorrow or facing hard choices -- for example, Sophie's Choice, when she had to choose between which one of her children she would save from the Nazis.

When I was 19 and I first read this book, I thought it was just about banning books. I didn't fully comprehend the depth of mind control that would be involved in restricting information, and consequently creating a reality that is so sanitized that it bears no resemblance to real life. No wonder people were glued to the flatscreen ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - GREAT STORY WHICH IS NOW A CLASSIC AND OF HISTORICAL VALUE
Corduroy, by Don Freeman was first published in 1968. It has now ascended into the category of "classic." There have been several editions of this work since the first publishing date, and rightfully so. Other than being just a darn good children's story, there are several reasons to take note of this little book as it broke some new ground. First a brief look at the story...

A little Teddy Bear is languishing on the toy shelf of an upscale department story. One day a little girl and her mother pass by and the little girl tells her mother that this is the very bear she has always wanted. Her mother tells her no, that she has too much already and besides, he doesn't look new. He's lost the button to one of his shoulder straps."

The little bear thinks about this and that night, he goes in search throughout the story in search for a button. He makes pretty good headway until the night watchman finds him and returns him to his shelf.

Of course there is a happy ending to ... Leer Más

My son's school has this book and he loved it so much he asked me to buy it for him. It was his Head Start graduation gift and he LOVES IT! Great little book and even better with the CD because you don't have to read it over and over and over again.

Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - Esa ortografía

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Once Upon a Time...
Described as "an utterly charming fairy tale in the tradition of The Princess Bride and The Neverending Story," Neil Gaiman's Stardust is an extremely bewitching and absolutely addictive story that will have you turning pages well into the night to discover what will become of Tristan and the star. The magic contained within the pages of Stardust makes for a fantastic fairy tale for adults.

Neil Gaiman has created a motley cast of characters in Stardust - witches, fairies, gypsies, ghosts, sprites, unicorns and of course, the star. Our hero Tristran Thorne sets out on his quest and is quickly swept up in the adventure of his young life. Tristran is honorable and kind - a charming and extremely likable character. Surrounded by a cast of intriguing eccentrics, Tristran must retrieve the star in order to win the hand of the fair maiden Victoria.

Gaiman has conceived an entire world of wild enchantment and intrigue. With a swift moving plot, fully developed, realistic characters, and a captivating ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 3 out of 5 stars - A decent story of fantasy and love
I saw the movie Stardust and was interested in reading the book to hope for a better story because everyone always says books are better than movies. And the book had some variations from the movie, but overall it was pretty similar. Some parts were a tad slow though and honestly I didn't think the book was really better than the movie. They were just different. I still think the book was worth reading, and definitely so if you haven't seen the movie.

Evaluación: 3 out of 5 stars - Not too bad
Perhaps I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't seen the movie first... I couldn't help making comparisons as I was reading it. It was a good story, lots of imagination and originality. Also, the writing style was clear and entertaining to read. But, the love story was kind of lacking, with point A to B with no stops in between. The ending was also anticlimactic. It wasn't a bad book at all, but not my favorite fantasy novel either. I give it 3.5 stars.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - We deserve good fairy tales
Adults deserve good fairy tales, too ~Neil Gaiman.

I have trouble being honest and critical with a well written book. Someone like Gaiman, in all his work so far, is able to create a world and characters that just pull you in and don't let you go. He is able to create the myths that make me suspend disbelief and the critical and writerly mind and just let go.

He does it here in _Stardust_. I have nothing to add in terms of the conflict or the characters because I lived and interacted with them. Books like this remind me why I loved reading so much when I was younger, before I sucked all the fun out by going to graduate school. Perhaps the resolution was telepgraphed to the reader, but that only comes out on reflection. Go get everything he's ever written, and remind yourself why you liked reading too.

We deserve good fairy tales, and we get them from Neil Gaiman. Thank you Neil.

Wow. This book will stay with you. I loved the movie, but the book is quite different, and in a good way. Really spooked me, and that doesn't happen very often. I loved this book and will be reading it again and again. Children take warning, though. It is pretty frightening and will likely scare kids. Adults however are sure to love it....if you love a good scare!

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - For children (and adults) who like to squirm
Coraline's family has just moved into a new flat. Her parents are always busy with their own work and Coraline (please don't call her Caroline) has no friends or siblings to play with. She spends her time exploring her new apartment complex and the surrounding grounds. She's got some eccentric neighbors: two little old ladies who love to reminisce about their time on the stage and an old man who trains mice to sing and dance.

But what's really strange is the extra door in Coraline's flat. It doesn't go anywhere. Coraline's mom says it used to connect to the vacant flat next door, but now it's bricked up. Except that it's not always bricked up... sometimes it does go somewhere...

Coraline is a terrific little heroine. Curious and brave, but appropriately cautious, she sets out to discover what's in the vacant flat. And though what's there seems rather wonderful at first, Coraline soon realizes that it's actually rather horrible. Not in a bloody gory kind of way, but in a spooky, spine-tingling, why ... Evaluación: 1 out of 5 stars - please don't read this--watch the movie instead
I absolutely loved the movie version of "Coraline" and just finally got around to checking out the original book. I was greatly disappointed. The writing style is too simplistic and doesn't paint a vivid picture. The characters are flat, and you feel no connection with any of them, including the main character. There really isn't any moral lesson in this book--Coraline happens to wander into the world twice, sees some weird stuff and her parents coincidentally get trapped there. I didn't like the illustrations; especially a picture of one of the actresses and her dogs, which are clearly described as Scottish Terriers but look more like long-haired poodles in the drawing. The movie does a much better job of showing that her parent's disappearance and all of the "wonders" of the Other World occur because Coraline has shown dissatisfaction with the changes in her life. I had to force myself to keep flipping pages.

Go watch the movie. It takes the overall creepy theme of the book and does a fantastic job of making ... Leer Más

Coraline by Neil Gaiman is a great book, which can be enjoyed by children and adults, however, I would only recommend it to kids who aren't too easily scared.

It begins with Coraline moving to a new apartment. She quickly grows bored with her new home, and soon discovers a door which leads to an alternate version of her own apartment. Her mother and father are there, as well as her other neighbors, however everything is more strange and fascinating then back in her old apartment. Huge theatres with dogs as the spectators, wonderful food, and a talking cat are just a few of the wonders she finds. However, everyone on the other side of the door has buttons where their eyes should be, and not all is as it first appears.

Neil Gaiman's writing style is short and to the point, making it easy to read for younger ages, and giving the prose a certain freshness and simplicity. He is vague where he needs to be allowing the reader's imagination to take hold, and manages to convey a wealth of ideas in a very ... Leer Más

I had known about Gardner's "Annotated Alice" for years but only just purchased my copy. I am pleased that I waited. Aside from the enlarged number of annotations in this most text by Gardner, there are now three "Introductory/Forwards" by Gardner which add greatly to the enjoyment of this Edition. Gardner died earlier this year, so this will be the last update by him. A true Collector's Edition, and well priced, for one of the great books of the 19th Century for adults and children alike. A "must" addition to any serious library.

I was looking for book of Alice in wonderland that included the original drawings, This does and make for an interesting read with the notes on each pages.

Evaluación: 1 out of 5 stars - MAGNIFYING GLASS REQUIRED!
This is about the font size, NOT the content. Gardner's comments are about a 5 pt. (i.e., smaller than used by newspapers for legal notices). Had I known, I would have gotten the hard back edition.

Not the most impressive author in terms of command of language, but it is a classic, enjoyable "children's" story. Notations are perfect in format and content, to make this dive into the rabbit hole an enjoyable one.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - If you liked Lord of the Rings, Dragonlance, Ender's Game...you will love this.
My first exposure to the realm of high fantasy novels was The Hobbit. I was in 6th grade. I started reading the Dragonlance series shortly after and probably read every published work at that time. After that I started reading science fiction books mostly by Asimov but I also read the Ender's game series. I am now in my thirties but wanted to start reading more fiction again. A few months ago I decided to read Lord of the Rings. Once I was done I wanted to read some more high fantasy but didn't know where to start. A friend recommended the Drizzt novels and I couldn't put them down. I read the first two in 3 days. Homeland is very much a bildungsroman, much like Ender's Game, but set in the world of the Drow elves. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of Lord of the Rings, Dragonlance, Ender's Game, etc...

Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome. Okay, now I got that out of my system. Here is an example of one of the most superb writing styles that I have ever encountered. There is a masterful balance of action, adventure, and character/plot development that is rare to see. Typically, heavy action detracts from everything else, but not here. The characters are so well described and developed that they practically come to life.

The book takes place in the Forgotten Realms, a world for Dungeons and Dragons. You don't have to be a gamer to read and enjoy this book or the other two in the trilogy although, if you are familiar with the world, you'll have that much more description going in.

This book starts from the nitty gritty beginning with the birth of Drizzt Do'Urden, one of the most famous characters in Forgotten Realms. Okay, I will not put my thoughts of this book in a roundabout manner. I'll try to be as precise as I can, though I will be battling the entire fan base which is, as far as I can tell, very large indeed. Now, I rarely give bad ratings to a book, thinking that in every piece of published manuscript there exists something for someone and that if we do no stick with the way Academia looks upon literature we can only profit in a way. But, every now and then, out of the vastness of published novels, emerge something that really isn't worth the effort. Homeland is one of those things, and when this comes from a guy that spent most of his gaming years in Forgotten realms campaign setting and knows what's he talking about, you should take some note of it. Now, what precisely is the problem, and what does vast community of fans sees in Drizzt Do'Urden and his exploits? It is not that Salvatore doesn't know how to write though sometimes his construction of sentences and overall structure of the novel draws tears to eyes of anyone who has ever ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Amazing!!! **Spoiler Alert**
This book was great! I loved the well-developed characters and story-line, but most of all, it was the way that the magyk was portrayed. The magyk in this book was completely different from the magic in Harry Potter, seeing that in Harry Potter the magic is something that people are picked for and then taught, but in Magyk the magyk came from objects that had spells written on them. It was very different, but a good different.
The only thing that I didn't like too much was that, even though you know who Septimus is during almost the entire book, it isn't until the very end that we find out for sure. It was somewhat aggravating. Also, I didn't like how the book switched from character to character.
Well, I hope that this review was helpful and please, enjoy the book.

Evaluación: 2 out of 5 stars - A boring and un-original kids' fantasy book
Here is another children's book that I just could not get into at all. I read the first 75 pages, and even those were tough to get through. As a true Harry Potter fan, I found this book to be seriously missing the mark in the fantasy-magic genre. The characters were not well-written, and for me, when the characters aren't fully developed, I have a very hard time caring at all about any of them. The storyline just bored me to pieces, and a few elements seemed a little too familiar if you are an HP fan (i.e. a spiral staircase that winds its way up a tower, a character with the last name "Trelawney"). I think kids (probably ages 8 to 11) might enjoy this book if they already like the wizard/magic fantasy genre. But this book just did not do it for me.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - When I got Magyk for my birthday, I didn't think much of it ...
I totally recommend this book if you like magic, dragons, and ... WIZARDS! Silas Heap was walking down a path that led to the Castle when he saw a baby. He took it home and found out it was the queen's. Now it all starts.

I think this is a great book because I love magic and adventures. Some parts have more action than others, making those parts better. My favorite part is when they slide down the rubbish chute, because it sounds fun. -- Mitchell

Really Sage, try harder to be rowling and tolkien. You have failed. I only bought this book because it was cheaper on Kindle. The most boring book I have ever read. I was able to skip the last 45% of the book. Just to find out the answer to the mystery was what I knew as soon as the boy showed up. I dont know what warrented this series to go on so long, but I feel bad for those who should realize their time has been wasted.

Picture Area 51 technology, a Vegas-level income base, locate it just to the north of Nellis Air Force Base, add in a remorseless mercenary force surrounding a cadre of computer hackers bent on holding the world's largest, most innovative theme park at ransom, and you have the makings of an incredible e-ride filled with all the techno-thrills that fans have come to expect from Lincoln Child.

"Utopia" has all the mystery, shock, tension, and surprise plot-twists that eager audiences have come to expect from this master of his genre. A fun read that ends too soon, but leaves one all-too-ready for the next one.

Evaluación: 2 out of 5 stars - Child's Solo Debut is Undermined by a Tired, Uninteresting Plotline
I enjoy Lincoln Child's work, especially the Pendergast series he writes with Douglas Preston. His solo work is pretty uneven -- it has potential, but I've yet to read a really terrific thriller written by Lincoln Child himself.

UTOPIA is Child's first solo novel, and I must admit I didn't care for it. There's very little about this novel that's fresh and interesting. As other reviewers have commented, Child borrows heavily from pre-existing material, most notably DIE HARD, WESTWORLD, and JURASSIC PARK. The plot moves along sluggishly, and I was able to predict almost all the major plot twists.

The major flaw with UTOPIA, however, is its subject matter: amusement parks. Child is obviously fascinated by his high-tech park, and spends many pages explaining its development, operations and technologies. In the end, I found most of this material to be overly dry and technical. Personally, I wish Child had spent less time describing his park and more time fleshing out his characters, who are mostly two-dimensional. ... Leer Más

I enjoyed this one and read it in record time. Of course I stayed up into the wee hours to finish it. I've learned that with, Child's books, you need to plan on getting to sleep later that usual after you hit the half-way mark.

This techno-thriller plays itself out in a futuristic theme park (Micky Mouse, it ain't) in the Nevada desert.

There are the usual near-death experiences with a few "real-death" experiences thrown in, letting you know that the next demise could involve a prominent character. This one is not for someone with feeble imagination, Child asks his readers to envision Utopia's out-of-this-world attractions and robotics and if you can do that and follow the central characters as they attempt to thwart the bad guys, you'll remember this one long after you've put it down. Or if not, you will at least remember Wingnut.
