Evaluación: 2 out of 5 stars - not very responseble
I tried to return this item after i bought it, I tried to contact the seller but never got response. the copy was very poor and the pages were falling out.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Fast Service
Book was as represented and arrived very fast. I got it on the day that Amazon said it shipped. Thanks!

Evaluación: 2 out of 5 stars - Waited too long
It took forever to get this book, even though it was in good condition I think i paid wayy too much for it.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - This seller did an excellent job.
This seller was excellent. The item hipped relatively fast and arrived in described condition. I would definitely buy from this seller again.

Evaluación: 1 out of 5 stars - Missing Required Item Included with Textbook
I ordered this brand new, latest addition textbook directly from Amazon (no reseller). The Dos mundos textbook arrived but was missing Quia(tm) (McGraw-Hill single log-in authentication for students). Since the Quia log-in authentication info is missing and it is required in order to access on-line information, the textbook is worthless for my class. I have sent 2 emails to Amazon with no response. This is very poor customer service!

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Great
Overall great service. Arrived earlier than expected and in great condition. Even some helpful annotations.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Quick & efficient
I received my book quicker than I even expected. I'm a student who orders textbooks online to save money, and usually you have to sacrifice the first week of school work to wait for the shipping. This was not the case on this book. Was in great shape. I would definitely recommend using these guys.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - It's a good book for spanish class
The short stories are great and it explains the literary movements in Spanish literature. I highly recommend this book for school use or light reading. Just make sure you have a dictionary handy if you're not a native speaker.

Evaluación: 3 out of 5 stars - I typed in the ISBN number to search for the book, and they gave me the wrong edition
I typed in the ISBN number originally, in order to search for the book. I then clicked on used books, and then they sent me the wrong edition of the book!

Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - Good, thorough, and not too difficult overview of Spanish literature.
This is my textbook for a Spanish literature overview class, and so far we have just gone straight through it and not required any extra materials. It is very thorough and gives a good overview in the limited space it is able to have. My one criticism would be that the informational sections feel too long and boring and needlessly detailed when it gets into long lists of literary terms, etc. Overall a good book, though.

Evaluación: 1 out of 5 stars - Most boring book I have ever read
This review may annoy people who feel strongly about the book or the incident, but Hiroshima really is the driest read imaginable. I had to teach it to an extension English class and when the time came to discussing the text, all 24 students owned up to not reading it because it bored them senseless. I couldn't feel angry about that because I too found it so dull that I struggled to get through it. I ended up supplementing it with other non-fiction texts. Three successive classes have all proclaimed it the most "boring" book they have ever been asked to read for English. This review is more for teachers pondering using it as a study text. Don't! Your students will thank you for it.

Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - An intimate look at the innocent victims of total war
Hard not to feel nostalgic for days when war was waged by warriors. A certain civility in that. Rules of engagement. Codes of honor. You think of Greeks, and Samurai, and "The Charge of the Light Brigade;" of French and German soldiers who meet in No Man's Land to share Christmas treats then return to opposing trenches.

But then here comes Nanking, Stalingrad, London, Dresden, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki. Total war, as the phrase goes. A reversion to tribal days, perhaps, when warring foes fell men, women, and children alike, to void vengeance. A weapon now to instill dread, to sap the will, to raise the costs of conflict.

Hiroshima: August 6, 1945, 8:15 a.m. That's when John Hersey`s story begins, with "a noiseless flash." It begins not in the White House, nor in the Imperial Palace or the B-29 that dropped the bomb. But in the personnel department of the East Asia Tin Works, where Toshiko has just turned to speak to a co-worker. In the Hiroshima Red Cross Hospital, ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - The atomic bomb was not the prettiest part of the war
This novel is the best, accurate, and historical record of the people of Hiroshima after the atomic bomb hit in 1945. The entire town was left in ruins, and the people had to do all the could to make it out and survive. It was the most horrible moment for Japan, and thousands died, and even more were left sick or died for radiation poisoning. It also makes you wonder, is this worth the cost of victory? I give credit to this author for gathering these historically accurate summaries of a good variety of survivors of the bombing, as well as returning decades later to conclude his biographies of these brave survivors. The novel is not a pretty one, but shows how pushing one button can change the lives of thousands of people in a matter of seconds. Its sad seeing what these people went for, as well as sad how some of these survivors ended up dying. This is an emotional book, and shows a Japan's point of view after the bombing, which many Americans weren't aware of the full extent these people ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - A silent explosion (3.5 stars)
First published in 1946, this simple little book recounts the experiences of six civilian inhabitants of Hiroshima who survived the atomic blast on April 6, 1945. Few residents recall hearing any sound from the explosion, just the bright flash and the shock wave. Even those who died soon after most often did so in silence. The book tells what those 6 were doing that morning, what happened when the atomic bomb exploded, and how they coped in the hours, days, weeks and months that followed. The final chapter returns 40 years later to follow up on the rest of their lives.

I've heard rave and almost reverential recommendations of this book and wondered if my thoughts would be changed by reading it. The text is mostly straightforward and seemingly neutral in its judgment; it reports that most Hiroshimans did not blame the US for the bomb, they just wanted to get on with their lives as best they could. It is not until the very end that it seems to take on an agenda, and while ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 3 out of 5 stars - Confusing and Boring
I read this book as a 10th grade student. The book may have been the most confusing book I have ever read. The book has 7 different accounts and each one is short and almost pointless. If Hershey only used 4 characters and went into each person's account deeper, it would have been much more interesting. Could not wait to finish this book... not for good reasons though.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Being yourself is easier than you think!!!
This story is more than your normal fiction book! It a spectacular story about a girl that that doesn't care an inch about who or what peorle think about her. Shes a lose, cheerful, spiritful,I-don't-care-what-people-think kind of girl with a side of spunk! And gods who can forget that friend of hers,Leo!!!

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Touching
Jerry Spinelli is one of those few authors who can take a completely crazy character and makes us learn to adore them. Of all Spinelli's books, Stargirl is my very favorite. It's a quick read, but one your not likely to forget. A girl who call herself Stargirl is something of a blessing to the high school Leo attends. It used to be utterly boring, until she arrived. She doesn't care what people think of her, she does what she wants, and she cares for everybody. Without anyone knowing she sends gifts. I have read this book many times and will continue to do so. I highly recommend this book to everybody of all ages and gender.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - a wonderful book
this is such a wonderful story and a look at what it truly means to "be yourself". definatly a must read for both teens and adults. mr. spinelli , my hat goes off to you !

Evaluación: 3 out of 5 stars - Stargirl ... Hmm ...
This book was assigned reading in a college class (focusing on teen reads). The question that continually popped in my head: Does she have a mental condition? I kept waiting for the moment when Leo found out she had PDD NOS--a significant reason for the unusual behavior, but it never happened. Her behavior was so bizarre at times that I felt it lacked believability. Yes, certain parts were quite touching and very familiar, as we've all endured struggles through our teen years, but it just left me with a "hmm... not sure what I think about it." Maybe I'm just thinking too much.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - A review from an adult
I am an adult male who typically does not read fiction, let alone fiction dealing with teenage relationships. However, this book came highly recommended by a few people, and I figured it would be a quick, easy read.

I was not disappointed. This book is written as a look back to the narrator's high school years (about 15 years previous). The narrator, Leo, talks about his experiences, and about a particularly intriguing young girl named Stargirl (her given name is Susan). Stargirl is unlike any other person he has ever met. In a nutshell, she marches to her own beat, drum, and entire band!

However, there is something about her that really makes her endearing to the reader. She goes through periods of both acceptance and rejection in the book, but the take home message is actually quite powerful. One question I was left with regarding the take-home message was, "How often do I hold back myself from others (in terms of kindness, service, and trying to help them feel ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Très Bien
Ce livre est le meilleur livre que j'ai lu en français. C'était tellement doux. Le dérnière chapitre me fait triste, mais je l'aime beaucoup.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - a joy for all ages
I read part of this book back in high school, and I just bought it to "refresh" my French! It's such a beautiful story.... well worth reading, whatever your age!

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent edition!
This is a high quality edition of this French masterpiece. Sturdy paperback at a great price with quick delivery.

Very happy to read this again, its been years, this book is inspiring and a good choice for French learners or re-learners.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - If you decide to read this book, your world will never be the same.
That statement is hinted at on the back of the book.

And presumably, this is a children's book. It clearly isn't.

If you have the courage to read this book, if you haven't already, then good luck. The ending just isn't very easy to take, but this author really seemed to know what he was doing, so I guess it was necessary.

I AM a pilot (literally) that happens to live in the desert (Southern California). So I relate to the author on a literal level, but only up to a point.

The author is nothing less, in my opinion, up there with Socrates, Einstein, and other great minds. Yes, the book really is that powerful. It masquerades as a children's book, and therefore people that should have read it, haven't. It contains some secrets, all of which (I don't think) most "adults" will acquire on the first reading. One reading of it just won't be enough.

Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - Learned to read French using this book
More than a simple children's tale, it was my first exposure to a deeper level of the French language. Simplistic on its face, the chapters could be peeled back to reveal existential philosophy. It made for interesting discussions with my fellow book club members who were learning French along with me.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Great book!
This book has a great message to it. Any one can relate to the idea that overusing resources and polluting the land leave our children with nothing. This was my favorite book growing up, the movie is just as great. It bothers me so much that a book with such a great meaning behind it could be banned by some school districts. Are our kids not allowed to learn that natural resources can be limited or used up because our actions??

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Serious message with Suessian style
This is by far my absolute favorite Dr. Suess book of all time. Socially concious Suess wrote this book as a reminder that we have a responsibility to our planet and its inhabitants no matter how much we THINK we need the latest fad. The Once-ler tells this story from the perspective of someone who knows the damage that can be done and regrets his part in it terribly. I use this book as a teaching tool in my gifted classes every year because I think it carries such an important and potentially tragic message while still leaving a ray of hope that these situations can be corrected. This story simplifies a serious social issue in a way that only Suess can...and in a way that makes it easy for children to see what adults don't always pick up on. To be honest, I'd be lying if I told you that I didn't get a little choked up and misty every time I read the line, "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not." Noone can argue with the simple truth that Suess ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - WOW!
Written in 1971??? Holy Cow!!! Is anyone out there listening??? Today as I write this in 2010, I sit, watching the Once-ers (also known as the BP ers) continue to destroy our good earth. The sad part is, there may not be a seed to throw to the next generation. What a fabulous book. What a sad but honest commentary about greed.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - The lorax
This is for me, Dr Seuss' most poignant work. The message is clear, "unless someone cares a whole awful lot, Nothing is going to get better, it's not. Read this to your children!

Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - Entertaining book with environmental lesson
I bought this book back in college when I was intersted in teaching environmental science. I ended up using it when I substitute taught and worked at an environmental camp. It is enteraining like most Dr. Seuss books and has a timeless lesson. I have started reading to my 4 year old. I highly recommend it.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Too early to tell
I received this book within a few days of ordering it. Very speedy, as usual with Amazon. The book was well-packaged (shrink wrapped), and arrived in perfect condition. I can't tell anything about the contents of the work book, since my son hasn't started using it yet.

Evaluación: 2 out of 5 stars - Not for self-instruction
As long as this book is used in a classroom environment led by a fluent spanish speaking instructor, it's quite a good textbook. It has terrific glosseries in the back. I gave 2 stars simply because there's no way you could utilize the book in a self-study environment.

Evaluación: 1 out of 5 stars - Avoid at all costs!!
I am a native speaker. I have a degree in linguistics. I have taught French, English and Spanish. I have been teaching Spanish in high school for the last 4 years. Unfortunately, I've had the "pleasure" of working with this book.

My biggest problem with this book is that the authors assume students will learn the way they did. They rely heavily on deductive learning, which is a critical thinking skill not present in the majority of students. Kids are presented with a lot of information and then, they are supposed to answer questions. How if they didn't even have an idea of what is going on? Many of the exercises don't have a clear purpose, as demonstrated by the following -and I quote from the Teacher's book- "When students are doing the activities, accept any answer that makes sense. The purpose is to have students use the new vocabulary, not to recall facts" This makes my students really anxious because they don't know what's expected from them. Gifted students find the exercises boring ... Leer Más

Evaluación: 4 out of 5 stars - Covey's Positive Psychology
Stephen Covey is one of the most prominent self help gurus with international best selling books, seminars and training programs. I am a particular fan of Covey because his books are usually grounded in established principles of human behavior.

While this book is listed in category of self help and business, I would consider it as a welcome addition to the area of psychology and Positive Psychology in particular.

The 8th habit is an inspirational attempt to get everyone to connect with their inner voice. Voice for Covey is that special place that you are able to connect your mental, physical, social/emotional and spiritual talents. It is those areas that express your and harness your vision, passion, discipline and conscience. In some ways it is the spex of Maslowe's theory of motivation and self actualization. It is a message that resonates in the field of Positive Psychology to discover your strengths and passion. It is aligned with Marty Seligman's Authentic Happiness. ... Leer Más

This is an older text book. It was to replace one that my daughter uses at school and had lost. It is adequate, but if I were buying one for home use, I'd likely by a more recent addition.

I bought this book as a replacement for my son, who needed to turn it in for his senior graduation requirement (he lost the one given to him). Ordered on May 5th with 'standard shipping', the book arrived May 28th. Unfortunately it was the wrong book, and the seller has promised to expedite the correct book to me by today (June 4). So the lesson learned here is that, aside from the wrong book being shipped, the "standard" shipping method - parcel post - from the US Postal Service - can take up to THREE WEEKS to deliver. Lesson learned ... if you are buying a book from a seller other than direct from Amazon, always pay the extra shipping charges to avoid their 'parcel post/snail mail/pony express delivery time!

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent Book
I bought this book because I was drawn by the Topic. I read a few reviews before, just to see what others thought of it.
I am overly impressed with the Author. The story of Peter walking on the water is not new to me, but John has taken this story, and has brought it into our everyday situation.
We all desire to do great things in God, and would love to walk on water. However, we fail to leave the boat for many reasons.Fear of failure, lack of trusting God, or because we are afraid to leave our comfort zone. The Author has really challenged me to step out in faith. I hope this book will meet you at your point of need.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Loved it!
I loved this book, and it couldn't have come at more perfect timing in my life! I have often felt inadequate in just about everything I do. My relationships, my job, you name it, I always feel like I'm not good enough. I am afraid of failure. However, the chapter about "seeing the wind" and learning about failure management -- and learning from failure itself -- really made me see that there is no point in worrying about it. Everything in life has risks, and the only true failure is being a "boat potato!"

I also really liked John Ortberg's writing style. It is light and entertaining and he has a great sense of humor. I found myself laughing out loud several times during the course of this book. "I may be small potatoes, Lord, but this spud's for you!"

In addition, he also provides questions for reflection at the end of each chapter. I imagine that would make this book perfect for a small group study. However, they are also good for personal reflection as well.

Evaluación: 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent
Delivery took a very long time but not seller's fault. I think USPS lost it. Book appears to be new.
