Evaluación: - It harrows me with fear and wonder
"Hamlet" doesn't need any introduction -- the tortured Dane, the ghost, meditations on suicide and a climax full of death. But as well-known as the storyline is, the play itself is what deserves the attention, both for Shakespeare's shadowy plot filled with uncertainty and treachery -- and for his brilliant, immortal writing, which takes on a new dimension when read on the page.

"Hamlet" is for everybody, but not for everybody to enjoy equally. The sad truth is I am one of those who have come, through some application, to feel real appreciation for the play, yet never loved it. The fault is mine and not Shakespeare's, but it is an honest fault worth exploring.

The story is pretty straightforward on its face. The king of Denmark has died, and as his son Hamlet fights overwhelming grief, he comes to discover the father died at the hand of his successor, Hamlet's uncle Claudius. As he contemplates the enormity of this knowledge, he wrestles with the fact his friends and court advisors are in league with the uncle. Even Hamlet's mother has compromised her connection with him by marrying Claudius soon after being widowed. Through all this turmoil a cosmic consciousness slowly emerges in young Hamlet.

Evaluación: - This is NOT a book, this is a PLAY
Just so all of you are aware, Shakespeare was not in the practice of writing "books". He was a playwright, so when you go ahead and say that this "book" was boring, or hard to follow, make sure you realize that what you have in front of you is dialogue never intended to be read by the public, but only seen on stage. This gives the words more power and more accessibility. If someone reads you the To Be or Not To Be soliloquy aloud, you will understand it far better than a first glance at the text.

I would simply state that for many in this day and age, reading Hamlet is a very difficult undertaking. We are not trained in this language, and can hardly tie our attentions down for a 10 line speech, let alone the so-called "ranting" discourses that take place in this play. This does not make the material worse, it makes us inferior to the text. Evaluación: - Another excellent Oxford World's Classics edition
Note that this review refers to the Oxford World's Classics edition of Hamlet. Amazon does a really terrible job of sorting out which editions of Shakespeare plays are the same and which are different, so this review will almost certainly be referred where it does not belong.

This edition, like most of the Oxford World's Classics Shakespeare editions, is outstanding. The introduction is a good solid read and the editor is a very good writer (a quality which, though often overlooked, really makes or breaks an annotated edition). His references and notes are keen and illuminating and occasionally betray a wry sense of humour. Plenty of room in the margins for notes, as I found out taking a ridiculously intense seminar on this play and Joyce's Ulysses this semester. This play is truly Shakespeare's masterpiece, and this edition eminently does it justice.

The description of the book said that it was used, but in near-new condition with no markings. It was a bit worn and there was writing and highlighting throughout most of the play. Then again for four dollars what can one expect? I needed a book and thats what i got.

Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? is one of the greatest post-World War II dramas, the play that made Edward Albee's name and has become a modern classic, still popular and riveting in various stage and film adaptations. Though the kind of play that can become truly superlative when well acted, it also reads better than nearly any other drama, making it a feast in all forms.

The main asset is incredibly high emotional pitch. Though the play has but four characters, one setting, and almost no conventional action, intensity peaks early and hardly lets up until the highly-wrought finale. Perhaps no dramatist since Henrik Ibsen has been able to keep things at such a fever pitch regardless of what is happening. Simply impossible to ignore, the play grabs attention almost immediately and never lets go; it not only engrosses us but practically forces us to be engrossed. Do anything you can to avoid reading or seeing this play seeing as it is the most horrible thing ever written.
It is not a masterful play in the slightest. It is just arguing and yelling. Constantly. It does not come close to exploring the meaning of the American marriage or any other B.S. such as that.
It is terrible. Do not buy. Death is better.

If you aren't famliar with Edward Albee, this play is a great way to introduce yourself. This play tells the tale of George (a professor) and his wife, Martha (the daughter of the university president), who have invited a new professor and his wife to their house for late-night cocktails. As Nick and Honey come to learn, George and Martha dance a very fine line between contempt and love, and their unique expression of that love can, at times, be disturbing. Albee's exploration of the very complex relationships among the fascinating characters in this play makes it perhaps the greatest work he has ever written. This play not only contains some of the best dialogue Albee has ever written, but the story, while dark and disturbing, is also engaging.

Just to add my voice to the choir: Quite simply one of the best films
about romantic relationships ever made. Brilliantly written.
Brilliantly acted -- Diane Keaton is tremendous, the supporting cast is
full of gems and Allen himself takes the leap to present himself as a
real (if funny) human being and not a walking joke. And brilliantly
photographed by the great Gordon Willis of 'The Godfather' and many of
most important films of the 70s and 80s.

Wildly funny and ultimately heartbreaking. It's hard to imagine anyone
who has ever been in love, or struggled through grown-up relationships
NOT identifying with a lot of this film. I loved it in my late teens
when it first came out, and I love it even more 32 years later. Every
time I see it I notice different details, depending on my own current

...comic strip. We're all familiar by now with "Woody," the overanxious, underachieving intellectual with the inept social life. We've watched him develop from bits in a stand-up comedy routine to a fully developed comic character in the tradition of Chaplin's tramp or Fields's drunk. We know how "Woody" will act in so many situations that we're already laughing before the punch line. Maybe nobody since Jack Benny has been so hilariously predictable.
And yet there's always the realization that "Woody" is a projection of a real Woody Allen. That beneath the comic character is a certain amount of painful truth. That just as W.C. Fields really was a drunk, so Woody Allen perhaps really is insecure about his height, shy around girls, routinely incompetent in the daily joust with life.

Evaluación: - A review of the product more than the film itself
...Because if you're interested in buying this video you surely have seen AH by now, and even if you haven't, there are plenty of other reviews on this page that discuss plot, jokes, etc.

I just want to comment on the DVD itself, and the packaging. For someone who is reportedly so particular about how his films are treated, it's amazing that Woody Allen has allowed such a shabby dub to pass through. This is a garden-variety print of AH with sections that look like they were dragged across the floor. Even those annoying little "dots" at the end of a scene that tells the projectionist of a reel change have been left in. This is the only DVD in my whole 100+ collection that has this ancient artifact.

This version of AH is *not* anamorphic! That's just mind-blowing to me, and it degrades the picture quality still further if you're watching on HD equipment.

As with Woody's DVDs, there is no commentary and no extras, aside from a trailer. Oddly, for such a short film, ... Leer Más

Evaluación: - Best Actors & Best Screenplay
If I had to choose only one movie to be my all time favorite, this would be it. In fact, before I was married, I used to secretly "test" people I was dating and rent this movie and watch it with them. If they thouroughly enjoyed the film and also laughed at all the right moments, they "passed" the test. (Yes, my husband DID pass the test.) If they failed the test, they were a waste of my time.

In my opinion, the film is pure brilliance. It is witty and a wonderful characature of neurosis, men and women relationships, New York City, California, and the time it took place in. I love that Woody always has his character being with these very beautiful young women.

Everything about the movie cracks me up...from the waiting in line to see a film, the counseling visits, the subtitles for the male v. female thinking, the bug in the bathroom, the sprouts and mashed yeast, the children announcing what they will be when they grow up, the "universe is expanding" fear, the sneezing on the cocaine, ... The translation of this book into spanish is "literary" literal.... I started to read it, but, as a spanish native speaker, it did not move me. It was not to my reading standard. The story line, didn't make sense sometimes.... Better stay with the english version. I got more out of the rich language of this book.
Good for english speakers, though! Who want the exact translation of the words.

I love this story, but the translation is not good. Several passages were changed from the English language version. The cause of a tantrum was alterted from a lack of ice cream to a too-small sandwich. A pet toad was changed to a tortoise/turtle. There were several other liberties taken in addition.
This is a good book, but a poor translation.

Ralph to the rescue!In the book Beveey cleary creates a lovable mouse to save the day for Keith. This crazy mouse rides Keith's motorcycle all around the hotel and right into trouble. Believe it or not Keith is a little boy who becomes friends with the mouse. The book had lots of excitement and lots of adventure. ~N

I give this book 3 stars. This book is about a mouse named Ralph who gets a motorcycle from a boy named Keith. But then he drives into something all the same color. He did not know where he was going and he ends up in the in the basement he must ditch the motorcycle. Then Keith gets sick and Ralph must find a pill to save Keith. Keith asks Ralph to come home with him. I thought the story could have used more than one mouse as a main character but it was still a fun read. ~Mad Dad

I remember reading these books when I was a kid. I bought them for my grandson to enjoy as well. He likes them and is enjoying them, as I suspected he would. I reccomend these adventures for every child to read. Its good clean fun. The price is right too, unlike some of the trendy books.

My wife has been teaching our boy, 6 years old, to
read and write (but mostly to read) Spanish, which
is her first language. It is tough to keep a native
language alive in an English-dominant environment,
and it takes desire and perseverance. They have a
Spanish study session of about an hour or so every
weekday in the afternoon at home. For part of the
time, he reads out loud from books in Spanish for
little children (pre-school), and for another
part--and at bedtime--she reads to him from
more advanced texts. She has tried Harry Potter
in Spanish, but he doesn't get into that just

Evaluación: - Beware of Manufacturing Error! Adult material on first disc!
I ordered this Henry Huggins CD for a long car ride with my children. If you did, too, make sure you preview the first disc! The copy I received was appropriately labeled "Henry Huggins," but the material on disc one was NOT FOR CHILDREN. I listened to enough of it to research the source. It begins with the chapter titled "That's Amore" from the book "When You Are Engulfed by Flames" by David Sedaris. The themes and language in this book are adult. Amazon kindly exchanged my defective CD set with a new one .... AND IT HAS THE SAME PROBLEM! Buyer beware.

Looking back into the world of my own childhood I realize that the children of today are lacking sadly in the delight and creativity that only their own minds can create. No movie can do justice to the antics of Henry and Ribsy, a duo with amazing talent for mischief, mayhem and madness!

Almost from the moment you crack the paqes in this great work you are swept into the unpredictable world of Beverly Cleary. This author manages to convey lessons in life without overburdening them with importance. She uses her tale to leave us laughing and wishing we could look up and see tat funny do and Henry Huggins fast behind him trying to fix whatever craziness he has started.

If there are any kids in your life, or if you want to slip away and hide in your own childhood for a little while - pick up Henry Huggins and settle in for some serious fun.

Evaluación: - Wonderful introduction to Cleary's world
Cleary's first novel introduces her most popular boy protagonist and his mischievous pet dog, Ribsy. Immediately after adopting the lovable mutt, Henry experiences a variety of adventures: bedlam on a bus ride; mass guppy breeding and the consequences thereof; nocturnal worm collecting as a means to replace a friend's lost football; the messy resolution of an unwanted role in a school operetta; disastrous participation in a local dog show. In the book's final chapter, Ribsy's former owner comes calling for him, and what ensues is enough to make even the youngest readers cheer for Henry.

Even after six decades, the ingenuity of Cleary's scenarios and the enthusiasm of her characters still impart an enduring freshness to the proceedings in spite of the novel's dated attributes and vernacular. Louis Darling's illustrations are notably cruder than those of subsequent Cleary books, but they're no less charming or evocative of their innocent age for being so much less detailed.

In Beverly Cleary's book, Henry Huggins, she tells a story about the life of a little boy. This book is definitely an adventure book. Henry Huggins is a seven year old 3rd grader. He lives on Klickitat Street, which is Beverly Cleary's childhood street in Portland, Oregon. The story is set in the 1950s and Henry lives in a small, peaceful town in the suburbs.

Henry Huggins is the main character. The book takes the reader through Henry's everyday excitement as a curious, adventurous young boy. He is a very likable boy and has a big heart. As a reader, it is easy to get into the book and try to figure out what Henry will do next. Ribsy is Henry's dog that he finds at the local drug store one day. He names him Ribsy due to the fact that he is really skinny, therefore making it very easy to see his ribs. The book also briefly mentions a few of Henry's classmates, including Robert, Beezus, and Mary Jane and a fifth grader named Scooter.

This book is absolutely awsome, not only because its author is Dr. Seus; it is also because it came in a beautiful edition with hard cover and the best translation in Spanish.
For a little girl who loves Dr. Seus stories and who is learning Spanish as second language, Un Pez, Dos Peces, Pez Rojo, Pez Azul is a great approach to the world of literature in a foreing language.

I love this book! The translation is excellent and the rhymes are very funny! I read it to my nieces, who are bilingual, and they enjoyed it as much, if not more, than the English version. I own both the original version and the Spanish translation. Both of them are great!

Evaluación: - One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, You didn't bother to make it rhyme??
Dr. Seuss is all about rhymes...this literal translation was obviously commissioned by someone only interested in making a few bucks, no consideration for the story or the kids reading it. Unfortunately, I did not realize that when I bought this book.

SAVE YOUR MONEY!

I now ONLY buy Seuss traslations by Aida E. Marcuse, those are done properly. My kids love them!

As some other readers have commented - one has to beware of reading this to a 5 year old, or in the case of my daughter, an 8 year old. Thank God I didn't let her read it and was able to 'edit' that Chapter quite severely to protect the two of them. What a surprise to take a full frontal assault on Santa in such an otherwise incredible series. I didn't get the joke I guess. Destroying a young child's fantasy life is hardly appropriate material. I see the age recommendation is 9 and up, but still, that's an awfully young age to expose adult viewpoints on Christmas in my view. At least in this context it was.

Evaluación: - Fudge Does it Again
Superfudge is the 1980 follow-up to Judy Blume's 1972's Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. While some may not like the new book as much as the previous one, you must keep in mind that there were 8 years between the writings of Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing and Superfudge. Although the buyer should be aware that the new editions of the book have been updated to reflect changes in life and attitude. Fudge now watches Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon instead of the Muppet Show and Peter watches CDs and and an MP3 player for Christmas instead of records. I think books should be left alone, because that was their original form. However, on the other hand, with these changes, the books do flow between each other better. The updates aren't so much that book is changed, but at the same time it is nice to know, in case you want one edition and end up with another.

In Super Fudge, Farley Drexel Hatcher (otherwise known as Fudge) tries to sell Tootsie the new baby but Fudge fails. The question still remains ... will Peter survive? I connect to Super Fudge when fudge threw a cracker at Peter, it reminds me when my baby cousin Tommy poured milk on me. If you like hilarious books you should read Super Fudge. You should also read this book to someone who annoys you to teach them a lesson, but don't tell them the lesson after you read it. Shhh!
